What are my chances at Yale?

I direct the following to all, not just the OP. There is post after post by kids who do not understand the financial aid process. There is a widespread myth that the money will be found for all kids to go to the college of their choice. That most college meet your financial need when finding a school that meets full need below the very top schools is hard. There is the idea that unlimited dollars can be borrowed. None of which is true.

There is virtually no way a kid can put himself though a $45K/yr private college. The federal grants and loans can be sizable if you are low income, but they won't come close to paying for a private college. After that if the school doesn't give you grants, and most won't, you need private loans which an 18 year old with no credit history can't get. Many parents don't qualify for private loans as well.

In the case of the OP, she will qualify for merit aid at many second tier schools. She also has a shot at several full need schools. This gives her more options than most, but only if she applies to a good range of well chosen schools.

Read all the posts right here on CC from kids who thought of the financial factors too late and ended up with few choices. Money, unfortunately, is a huge part of fit.

Well thanks for your input. Anyone else on opinions of my chances at Yale?

Tufts is giving me a full ride on financial aid, so you'll be set there in terms of money, I have the same EFC.

Thats interesting. Thanks for letting me know.

well everything looks great! although i would try to raise your ACT score up a bit.

but remember schools like Yale, you could say, almost pick applicants sort of "randomly" because there are so many kids qualified like your self applying.it's not certain but yes, you have a solid shot.

try also applying to other schools such as caltech.

don't quote me on any of this lol
just my opinion.

just to clarify a 32 ACT is equivalent to a 2200 SAT

Right now, I'd say that the ACT is too weak. You're going to want a 34-35 to really sneak into the top of their pool. I would start with the 28 on the math section. With some study, you could really get that up a couple of points

FinAid certainly is an important consideration, but most top schools do meet 100% of demonstrated need.

hey I just found a really good website for chancing like this (It's free). I can't post the address on here but the name of it is admission chances, just google it. You just fill out a profile. You earn points by reviewing other people and you use those points to read reviews others have given you. It's a pretty nifty system.

Stats are nice. The speaking for the EC will probably help somewhat. Being from Nevada will also help. Raise your ACT score by a bit as well as take some SAT IIs. Make sure to write nice essays and get good recs and I'd say you have a fair chance at Yale EA. Good luck!

Chance me? <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=363142%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=363142</a></p>

thanks for your review

I'd say you're in at Yale.

a 32 is the average ACT score at yale.

i think your ACT score is fine and your extracurriculars and out-of-school activities are a major asset. have you taken your SAT Subject Tests yet???

thanks for your help. No I am not taking Subject tests becuz my school doesn't offer them but if you take the ACT w/writing yale doesn't require them.

try to bump up your act score a little
you need more awards.
but your essay + recs are probably gonna be touching.
apply ea.

take subject tests, take them somewhere else, your school doesn't have anything to do with it

I've thought this through and I've decided applying ivy is a good way to make yourself go insane. What do I want to do after college? IDK, no clue whatsoever. I want to be happy. I think its stupid competeting all through high school to be the best so that you can finally get into a school and just be average. What is the point? Do I want a prestigious job. IDK but I know if I decide I want one later I'm getting it regardless of my undergraduate degree. I'm going to go to a college where I'll get a merit scholarship and be top of my class. I'm going to a school that I feel totally fits me and doesn't put any unneccessary stress on an already complicated process. I'm not going to waste countless nights study for the ACT just so I can raise it one more point. I'm going to be free, this whole application process is stupid and overrated. I'm just going to present my best self to whereever I apply and not spend weeks worrying about that one typo I forgot to fix on the application. If they take me great, if not then its too bad they're missing out. Life is not a race and I am not a rat and I am not playing into this stupid admissions game.

I'd say you have a realy good shot at Yale. Ur ACT and academic records are great (the type they look for at Yale) and since ur geographic location (a small town) is in a way an anomaly, I suppose that could be a plus point in ur application.

As for other Ivies, I'm pretty sure u could get into lower ivies such as Cornell easily.

So good luck.

Can u chance me:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=362050%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=362050</a></p>

Just remember that almost everyone that applies to HYP is qualified and the admit rate is less than 10%. So, if you have as good a shot as anybody else at Yale, then you have a 9% chance. If you assume that selected athletes, nationally ranked people in various fields, and contributing alums have a better than average chance, then your chance is now down to maybe 4-5%.

hm a fellow mormon?
