Too early to tell. Take your SAT.

@christiansoldier:
Here is the paradox i find within many people’s beliefs: They say SAT counts for a small portion of the application but when people ask to be chanced based on a projection of SAT scores, the responders (us) back out and fail to give a chance approximation. I don’t understand why you backed out of your decision to chance just because he didn’t give a concrete SAT score …

My approximation: congrats on the Eagle. That should help you out. I never did get my eagle (i joined too late). In any case, assuming you get a 2270 composite, you will have fighting chances. It may even matter on small aspects on your application, (i.e. geographical location, the reputation of school, etc.) You are a very strong applicant.

In general, I don’t really care to chance people based on accomplishments that haven’t yet happened.

I also think I have a good essay topic on me.

Can’t really judge without actual SAT/SAT II scores.

And Fresh101, who constitutes the “many people” who believe SATs only account for a small portion of the application? Most people agree that Grades/Transcript and Standardized Scores are the two most important parts of the application.

In general, I don’t really care to chance people based on accomplishments that haven’t yet happened.

point taken.

who constitutes the “many people” who believe SATs only account for a small portion of the application?

i don’t know if you’ve been keeping in touch with this forum but everyone here says that–or at least that’s the impression im getting.

I think what most people actually think is in extremely talented applicant pools such as Yale’s, the majority have superb SATs and therefore your ECs and other parts of your application need to really stand out.

right. That’s what i was pertaining to in Yale’s context. I guess i should’ve specified but we are in a YALE FORUM and i thought it was inherently implied that SAT scores count for a small portion because of the superb SAT’s of the applicants.

I think you have just as much of chance as anyone else. I really like your ECs so really hype them up. scores aren’t really the most important thing so as long as you get around your projected, you should be okay. i think the most important factor for you will be your essay though. it will be make or break.

would it be a bad idea to mention my Young Republican work?

yeah, I have a good essay topic on me that I think would show a lot about my character.

no, there are lots of republicans at yale. well not as many as democrats but being a republican will not hurt you.

how do southerners who go to reputable private schools fare?

haha there are many of them at yale too…

I say go for the GOP angle. They care more about diversity than they do accepting students of their political view.
