What are my chances for a biology based masters program?

Hello I’m new so sorry if this is the wrong spot. Here are my stats:

VR:151
Q:152
Writing: don’t know yet

GPA: 3.4
3 good letters of recc

Where do I stand for average programs typically in the New England area? Or where so I stand in general, thanks!

What universities are you looking at? You certainly meet minimum qualifications for a Masters program but it all depends on how selective a program you are interested in and whether you are looking for funding or are willing to self-fund.

Hey! I haven’t made a decisive list yet but I would honestly be ok going anywhere that is in the New England area (NY, MA, NJ, CT, NH, etc)

I’m doing this in my application year to medical school so I’m just trying to stay close to home. And what do you mean by funding? I’m not applying for financial aid if that’s what you’re referencing

Yes, that is what I meant. You should be OK for many schools. Come up with a list and then you will get more advice.

I’m curious about why you want to get a master’s in the application year for medical school. I know that a lot of students do it; I’m just curious about the motivations behind it, particularly since the master’s won’t show up much when you apply.

Hey Juillet! My personal reasoning (I can’t speak for others) is that I enjoy learning and I want to expand upon my interests. Also while it won’t show up on my application I will be able to tell them I am doing this for a year and can update them with grades. I think also good to stay proactive and in the “study mentality” before embarking on med school.

Annnnd. After medical school, if I so wish, I can apply the graduate credits towards a PhD. But that’s so far down the line I have no idea how busy I will be as a doctor.
