What are my chances for Columbia Early Decision??

I applied ED to Columbia and I was wondering how realistic my chances are of getting in.

Stats: SAT 2350 (800 CR, 780 M, 770 W)
SAT IIs: 720 English Literature, 730 US History, 700 Bio
APs; US History- 5, English-4

GPA: 3.65 (Unweighted) and I took nearly all honors and AP courses

Extra Currics: Varsity Baseball
Model UN
School Newspaper (editor in chief)
220 hours of community service
Debate Team

Please be honest- if you don't think I have a shot just say so.

Is your SAT score superscored or one sitting?

Your GPA and SAT II’s are on the weak side for the the average competitive applicant to Columbia.

Do you have any hooks? URM, legacy, etc.

I applied ed to Columbia also, except it looks like you applied to the Columbia College and I applied to the fu foundation. Your SAT scores are great, however your SAT subject test scores are a bit on the lower side, but still good! GPA is also a bit low, but I wouldn’t count you out. decent ECs. did you take rigorous courses? I honestly would say your chances depend a lot on your essays as well. If those are on par, I would say that it is a reach, but it is possible

My SAT is superscored- it was a 2330 in one sitting. Unfortunately I don’t have any hooks. What I do have going for me is that I took only Honors and AP courses- one of the reasons that my GPA is low for top schools like Columbia

lol nice name. Your SAT scores are definitely in the competitive pool, except for your subject tests - most applicants will have scores of 750+ but I guess it won’t be that much of a disadvantage 700+ is probably fine. same for your ec’s theyre not amazing stuff but definitely not bad. the only thing thats pulling you back is your GPA and tbh many applicants will have gpa’s of 3.8+ (you’d most likely have to within the top 10% of your class)

So how good are my chances? My school guidance counselor is being really unclear. Do I have a realistic chance (above 40%) or am I just flattering myself by even applying?

You’ll find out in a month. Your grades are 0.1-0.2 low on an UW scale, and your SAT II’s are mediocre. Since you are talking ED with your grades, you have to be a Columbia defined legacy, URM or a product of Stuyvesant, TJ or a top prep school like Horace Mann, Andover, etc. to have a 40% chance. Despite your strong SAT I’s, 25-30% is more realistic. Your race, location and essays all play a role. You’ll probably be deferred on ED but may squeak in on RD.

Your SAT is impressive; it’ll be higher than most (but by no means all) other applicants. Your GPA is a little low, though that’s a little balanced out by the SAT score. Your subject tests are not bad, but lower than someone would expect given your SAT. And your extracurriculars are interesting, but also pretty typical. I think the key will come down to the intangibles—your personal statement, Why Columbia?, letters of rec, etc.
