If my GPA is around 3.3 and a PSAT score of 1160. If my real SAT score is the same, what are my chances of getting at least 50-80% financial aid in somewhat to less selective schools?
Ohh and I’m an international student does that affect my chance of financial aid?
Realistically, your chances for financial aid as an international student will be low at the less selective schools.
There are fewer funding opportunities for international students, and your stats will keep you from being admitted to the most generous schools.
The USA has some of the highest tuition costs; almost any other country might be more affordable.
With these stats you could be admitted to some colleges if you’re full pay at $25,000 or so. If your budget is lower than that*, then you should look at other countries for university.
A possibility might be some HBCU’s like Prarie View A&M or FAMU - check to see whether you’d qualify for something as an international (“merit scholarships”).
Is that 3.3 your real GPA or did you try to convert it yourself? What educational system are you from?
- "50-80%" means nothing since we don't know if it's off of 25,000, 40,000, or 70,000!!!
I converted it my self and we just have an average score like 65.6 …
My average score is 87.8
But what educational system are you from?
Because in the US, someone with a 65 average doesn’t even graduate high school so clearly you don’t attend a US school. Knowing the system would help us understand what it means.
What MYOS and others are trying to tell you is that universities take many factors into consideration when admitting students and awarding financial aid.
So in order to help you understand your chances, we need more information, including your country, your parents’ finances/your budget, your extra curricular activities, your interests/possible major.
You can’t just give a few numbers and hope for an answer. It doesn’t work like that.
My system is from Ethiopia if that is what you’re asking.
Ok then: country-Ethiopia,Africa
Extra curriculars-sports (basketball and soccer)and clubs(prefect and Red Cross…)
Parents finances<25,000$/yr
Majors-something that is connected with biology (haven’t decided yet)
Good social skills and recommendations
You guys know my scores…
Any suggestions??expecting a response soon!!
You will also need to take the TOEFL.
im planing to take the ibt
You need a higher SAT score.
My guess would be Berea is a possibility if you bring it up to 1200.
Berea has a super low admission rate for international applicants. (Something around 4% last time they published international and domestic admission rates separately.) As do most small colleges with need-based financial aid for international students. Please keep that in mind as you assemble your college list.
An American GPA of 3.3 would be quite low. As in, below-average at many schools. If it is not below-average at your school, please make sure to include enough information in your application so that your GPA can be interpreted in context. (E.g. have your counselor include a distribution of GPAs or an approximate frequency of the different letter grades in the school report.)
^ I agree; rather than converting, estimate: are you top 10% at your school? Among the top 3 pupils?
It’s my understanding that a 65 means “First Class”; an 87 is rare, and would be “First class with distinction”, so that’d be a 4.0.
As B@r!um said, have your counselor indicate what those mean, indicating the different levels (First class, Second Class Honours, Second Class, etc.) and what percentage students nationally reach 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, and higher than 85.
