Im in 8th grade right now and I'm hoping to end the year with an 86 average. I'm in acelerated classes and I have a few extra curriculars for example,
*Community service
*I play lacrosse
*I play baseball
*I play basketball
*I play football
*I play violin
*I tutor younger kids at math
*I play chess
*I'm learning how to swim so I could be on the swim team for 9th grade
Im a poor(not much money) African American kid who will be getting staight A's in 9th grade. Do I have a chance for tenth grade Hotchkiss admissions

no. unfortunately not.

you have to have won various all-state or national championships or MVP awards in at least one sport

whoa, way to be harsh.
Yes, you do have a chance if you apply, and no one can contradict that. We need to know more than just what you do to help you with how much chance you’ve got for a shot at hotchkiss. If you don’t mind, tell us how you did with the sports, your grade, standardized test scores, etc.
And no, you don’t NEED to be an all star or MVP or champion or whatever the heck to get into hotchkiss.:)

cash’addict, looks like you have a great story to tell of overcoming tough times and conditions. Tell it often and well.

i live in nyc and on the math state test i always get high 4’s and on ela i get mid to high 3’s. (the highest you could get is a high 4). I think i would have a good interview, excellent recs and i think i can do very well with the ssat. What about other top schools such as loomis, peddie, nmh etc. what are my chances?

bump

Wait… um… you were being sarcastic or something, right?

Cashcrate, I think you have an OK chance… but you should try some second or third tier schools too, in case you don’t get in. How good are you at those sports? It’s quality, not quantity.

football, basketball im at a varsity level. I have won various awards from school teams. Im learning lacrosse and instead of violin im going to do viola. I think i can be an excellent viola player by the end of the summer. I play some chess and im ok. I have over 200 community service hours and i will be working this summer. I think i will get steller recs from my teachers in 9th grade and im 1st marking period grades in 9th grade will show my growth as i will try hard for atleast 90s and up.

also im planning on applying to
taft school
kent school
exeter
lawrenceville
peddie
choate
loomis chaffee
blair
and st. marks
