Hello, I am a junior in southern California, in a small city close to LA. I am interested in going into environmental science, studies, or policy. I do not want to go far from home because of family issues, and I do not think I would enjoy being in a hugely populated college. I want a college where I can often have hands-on practice & opportunities and participate in related club activities.
I am an average student in my opinion with a 3.8 unweighted GPA. I am currently taking 2 AP classes (Envi Sci. & Eng. Lang.) and plan to take 2 more in my senior year.
I joined my school’s Associated Student Body starting my junior year(Leadership) and have an office as Commissioner of Student Welfare where I am in charge of the Blood Drive
going to be a Peer Counselor as a senior (I should be working in the college center all the time helping underclassmen go to college)
In Robotics club since freshman year
In Go Green Club since sophomore year & am historian this year & probably have an office next year
Joined a Student Movement club against alcohol & drugs junior year
in Upward Bound since Sophomore year
Joined California Scholarship Federation Junior year too
I am not in many clubs but I am able to explain why which is because of my family financial issues, transportation issues, and just being in a low-income family.
I am a minority, as a Salvadoran-Filipino.
What do you think are my chances of being accepted into Occidental College? Do you think there are other schools in the LA area that fit me as well and would accept me too?
Thank you SO MUCH.
