What are my chances for Pomona?

Hello,

I am a rising freshman and my top choice college is, thus far, Pomona College to major in either Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (joint) or Public Policy and Analysis. Here is my planned schedule. If I should do well and stick to the following schedule, how well do you think that I should do in the admissions? Please, be critical and tell me any suggestions for improvement.

It’s impossible to say because your entire resume is essentially tentative, but here’s my opinion: You will need to work incredibly hard to get into Pomona. Your 7th grade SAT scores are a pretty good indicator that your academics are not very good at all. If you want to get into Pomona, these are some things I would suggest:

1) Work very hard on your academics. Strive for at least a 3.7 UW.
2) Don’t worry about SATs, because you should be fine for them if you do well in all your classes.
3) Start organizing rallies, writing articles, and becoming as politically vocal as you can. Try to get noticed.
4) Acquire a unique talent and be amazing at it. I would suggest either an exotic instrument (ie the bagpipes or mandolin) or some other quirky ability.
5) Spend two summers/semesters abroad performing a missions project in a poor country.
6) Get over 250 community service hours
7) Become an eagle scout
8) Start some clubs, and become an officer in them
9) Organize an impressive art portfolio and bring it on an interview
10) Try to have fun. As a rising freshman, you SHOULD NOT be on this website. I would suggest that you stop thinking about college until you are at least a sophomore, probably a rising junior.
Good Luck!
