Hello,
I’m currently a junior and was just hoping to get a better idea of my chances at certain schools.
School: Very competitive public school
GPA: 3.85 UW/4.45 W
SAT: 2370 single sitting
APs: APUSH - 4
Chem, Micro/Macro - 5
Taking Stat/BC/World/Bio this year.
Two classes at a highly ranked university next year.
Extracurriculars:
Science Olympiad (Captain)
Science Bowl (Might be captain)
Founder of club dedicated to preparing for one of the international science olympiads
Year-long research club
Varsity rowing (3 yrs)
Summer research program at Rockefeller University (7 weeks)
Volunteering:
Peer tutoring
Hospital volunteering
Coach of nationally competitive middle school Science Bowl team
Awards:
National finalist (top 20 in country) for one of the main national science olympiads
Numerous Science Olympiad state medals
Science Bowl - third at states
State science award - top 5
One rec should be very good, the other should be decent.
Schools I’m thinking of: Princeton (SCEA?), MIT, local state flagship, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Vanderbilt, might go for Brown and CMU.
Thank you!
Good shot at at least one, not many ap’s may hurt you though
The Olympiad gives you a good shot at most schools on your list, but I agree with Hildafeuer about the lack of APs.
What ethnicity and gender are you? That can affect your chances significantly for some of these schools.
@Hildafeuer 6 APs is too small? What?
I’m taking a total of 8 APs - 4 last year, 4 this year.
How is your class rank? If it is good, I’d say you have a great chance, but please remember to have backup schools (sometimes even the best students in the world get rejected!) I believe you will have to take the new SAT, but if you get a similar score to your old SAT you’ll be fine. Remember you also need 750+ on two SAT subject tests.
Best of luck!
School doesn’t rank. Where did you hear about people having to take the new SAT? I thought the class of 2017 was allowed to use the old SAT.
Addendum: 800 on Bio-M, Chem, and Math 2.
Need a school that is fixated on SAT scores.
You should target schools where you qualify for merit aid
@worstjunglerNA your stats are good, but remember that admission at really selective undergraduate universities is (or at least appears to be, from our perspective) a crapshoot unless you are one of the best in the world. You should make sure you apply to safety schools which you can afford and do not mind attending if rejected everywhere else, which seems to be the case.
