What are my chances for the top colleges? And Should I do Early Decision?

Hi, I am a senior at one of the top 100 high schools in the nation and I am currently thinking about what my options are for college. I am currently interested in doing ED for Northwestern but i was hoping I could get some suggestions so I can make the right decision.

10) Piano for 8 years, flute for 5 years. stopped playing in high school for school though

11) Paid internship at lab. published first author review.

Thats about a short summary of everything I have. Im considering going into biology since working over the summer in a lab really made me appreciate science. I just entered siemens and im hoping for at least a semifinalist place. How much would that help and what are some other options? Thank you

The first author publication should be a big hook. There’s not enough information on your pub for me to judge how big its impact is though.

yea the journal is bilingual for chinese and english readers. obviously i wouldnt be good enough myself for something like Nature or Science. but since I am chinese and i’ve been taking the language for a long long time and i’m involved in various language clubs, maybe the fact that its a bit lesser known and that its in 2 languages can help? Im overall going for a science theme along with obviosly debate related things.

great chances, don’t listen to many people on here telling you that you won’t make it to a top college, usually people on this site are very discouraging

haha thanks alot thats what im hoping for = )

i think everything is pretty good except my GPA ( my school is really crazy…) and if i get semifinalist or finalist for siemens that would help alot. But everyone says i should take advantage of ED bc of higher acceptance rates. Some others say if i get siemens finalist (results come out soon) that i should wait for regular decision to have more choices…any suggestions on that?

LOLL, what’s with the straight fours in all the AP tests? what are the chances of that? those fives don’t like you huh?

yeah, i think you’ll be fine with ED at northwestern

If that is your definite first choice and your ok about the paying the costs, go right on ahead.

I think you’d get in, ED or otherwise - but ED can’t hurt!

really? Im just really scared about my GPA if i dont make top 10% that would be horrible but my high school is super competitive. THe only good thing is that i have an upward trend? junior yr and senior year i have mostly As so that helps right? and my GPA itself compared to others in the nation shouldnt be bad.

i know those AP tests made me angry!i thought i’d get 5s on 3 of them sigh…better luck for the next few i guess

Does your high school have any kind of track record with NW? That can be a good litmus test, whether others with your profile have been accepted there most of the time, some of the time, rarely.

funniest ap scores goes to: rocketsocks!!
