Hey guys! I was just wondering what my chances are for the UC and CSUs are. I’m planning to apply to all UC’s and 6 CSUs. (SJSU, SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach) I want to major in computer engineering.
These are my Stats,
3.92 W GPA
3.71 UW
1470 - SAT score
When it comes to high school rigor It isn’t that great as I moved from another country during junior year.
I had self-studied two AP classes:
AP Psych - 3
AP Comp Sci Principles- 3
Planning to Take the SAT math 2 and SAT physics.
As a senior, I’m doing,
AP cal BC
AP computer science A
Honors Principles of Engineering
ECs-
-Worked at Kumon teaching young kids and even high school kids Math and English.
- High School Intern at Cisco, It was a highly selective three-week program where students would participate in the various projects done by Cisco.
I know my chances are pretty slim for many of them, but as I moved I might be reviewed differently.
Your 3.92 Weighted GPA is your capped weighted UC/CSU GPA?

Yes 3.92 Is my capped weighted UC GPA
For the UC’s, below a 4.0 UC capped weighted GPA will make most of these schools a Reach. UCM/UCR and UCSC are likely.
UCI/UCD/UCSB and UCSD would be Slight to Moderate Reach and of course UCLA/UCB would be HIgh Reach schools. You have a competitive SAT but UC’s tend to be GPA focused.
2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 10%
UCLA: 9%
UCSD: 34%
UCSB: 38%
UCD: 41%
UCI: 38%
UCSC: 70%
UCR: 84%
UCM: 95%
2019 UC capped weighted GPA averages:
UCB: 4.23
UCLA: 4.25
UCSD: 4.23
UCSB: 4.16
UCI: 4.13
UCD: 4.13
UCSC: 3.96
UCR: 3.90
UCM: 3.73
2019 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT totals:
UCB: 1340-1540
UCLA: 1330-1550
UCSD: 1300-1520
UCSB: 1280-1520
UCD: 1230-1490
UCI: 1250-1510
UCSC: 1200-1450
UCR: 1130-1400
UCM: 1020-1290
Cal Poly SLO uses MCA points and 9-11th grades with a 8 semester honors cap so you need to calculate your SLO GPA and then plug your stats into the MCA calculator: https://mca.netlify.com/
SLO is a Slight to Moderate Reach school.
SDSU/CSULB/CPP: Very Likely (Match schools)
SJSU/CSU Fullerton: Safety schools
Best of luck and you have a well balanced list.
Thanks so much !! SJSU is a school I’m really interested in because of its engineering program. Good to know!
http://www.sjsu.edu/admissions/impaction/impactionresultsfreshmen/index.html shows what thresholds were needed for admission to SJSU for fall 2019. The score is the CSU eligibility index = GPA * 800 + SATRW + SATM (where GPA is the same as the UC weighted capped GPA). Some (engineering) majors use a modified version that overweights the SAT_M part of the SAT, as described at http://www.sjsu.edu/admissions/impaction/impactionresultsfreshmen/freshmenimpactioncalc/index .
Thresholds may change from year to year as application volume changes. Other years can be found at http://www.sjsu.edu/admissions/impaction/ . Note that computer engineering has historically been one of the more competitive majors at SJSU, with thresholds ranging from 4100 to 4700 over the past four admission cycles.
