Oh yeah, I'm a Pakistani boy! And I can afford ALL these schools:
UCLA, UC Berkeley, Cornell, Stanford, Yale, Harvard, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara

Your unweighted GPA is a bit on the low side for Yale, Stanford, Harvard, but not too low to be of a worry. Pretty decent stats and your passion for the medical field shows through your extracurriculars, nice job there. Really shows your dedication. As long as you work hard on your essays and set yourself apart, I think you’re almost certainly in to the California schools, and have a decent shot at Stanford and the ivies but still a reach for them. And Cornell I think is a match for you.

Btw hey, I’m a fellow Pakistani :)

BUMP

Crap shoot for H, Y and S, and very hard to predict as you are SE Asian. Even under the most optimal of circumstances, your percentage of acceptance is in the single digits. That said, your very strong for all the other schools.

Hmm, I think you have a decent chance at all the schools, but I think only amazing essays and recs will pull you over the edge.

Do you want to be an actor, a tennis player, a doctor, a humanitarian, or an ecologist? Many, many people are rejected because their ECs, while plentiful, fail to show one or two actual interests. Additionally, when you “go every day” to a tennis team at Berkley and have all of these other activates that demand huge amounts of time, but let your UW GPA fall to a 3.8 while taking 8 APs, it starts to become very clear that you’re an overachiever and even a braggart. And remember, colleges expect you to be a real person with whom they can relate – This is the purpose of your letters.
You need to figure out a way in your letters to explain how your diverse and unrelated activities tie into something greater. The sheer amount of activities you have calls into question their veracity and real significance (especially those tennis and acting awards).

Majoring in medicine is something I wanted to do since I was 5. My internships, work experience, and volunteering tell it all. Ecology is related to Biology, they’re both in relations to the study of life. I’m president of these clubs to show my leadership “skills”, and they’re just community service. Politics and acting is something I just like to talk about. Actually, now realizing, some of these ECs aren’t related to medicine obviously. So should I not write them down on my resume? @1golfer1

can I ask a question? a serious one? no offense? I am genuinely curious.

Do you have a life?
Maybe its because I come from a small school, and maybe my AP courses are more rigorous than as standard, and maybe I just play too much video games to notice how much time I actually do have.
But how do YOu have time for 9 APs (Im assuming at least 4 APs in a single year) and yet still be so active in tennis? ( I play tennis too btw, but Im no where near as distinguished)

Good job bro! I hope you get into a good school, you sure deserve to (idk, unless you dont really work hard and are just privileged to go to a good hs… jk  )
from a fellow SE asian

I think you have a good shot at all of those schools, though most of them are schools that are so competitive, even the most gifted, accomplished, perfect student may not get in–it’s practically a lottery. Exception: Stanford. If you can really nail your essays/supplements and show the your personality through strong writing, you have a good shot. Who you are matters there, as much as your stats.

So generally, I would add a few “safety” schools (to round out your UC safeties), though I’d say for you your safeties will be what for most people are reaches. Think elite privates that are slightly less selective than your top choices, but have solid pre-med programs. Your ECs tell a story, though be selective and focused in what you put on your app (I don’t think there’s actually room to include all of those…), so you should have a strong application.

Lol ummm…well yeah, I do try to work really hard. I’m also pretty social and funny so I have a lot of friends because of that. And I took 8, 1 sophomore year, 3 Junior, 4 senior. @ggwpafk823‌

@khantimmy17 Being president of a club merely to demonstrate your leadership skills is a mistake unless the clubs actually do something.
I just don’t see how you have the time for all of that stuff, and it’s very possible a college admissions person will have the same problem.

Of course OP has a life. The students who do not have a life are the ones who take IB courses. You should google “IB memes.” The IB memes Facebook page has over 129,000 likes. The AP memes Facebook page only has over 1,600 likes. An AP student can only take AP exams. A full IB diploma student can take any number of AP exams in addition to the required IB exams. Although OP has good extracurricular activities, OP has no very prestigious national/international academic awards. There are many students much more impressive than OP.

I think that your stats are great. As long as your essays and recs are good, you have a decent chance with them all. Good luck! Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/vassar-college/1718961-chance-me-for-vassar-ill-chance-back.html#latest

@mangiafuoco haha you know, I’m in IB, and I can confirm that’s true :stuck_out_tongue: (mostly)

I’ve gotten awards from Academic Decathlon since our team went to state. From Quiz Bowl we’ve also gotten awards, our won 1st in some competitions. UNICEF is a club that I wanted to be president of because I simply wanted to help and make fundraises and be more involved in my community.
I volunteer during the weekends, and a lot during breaks. Tennis after school is only 2 hours. I act whenever they give me the opportunity to do so. Academic Decathlon is after school, and we have tournaments every other week (on weekends). Bird Watching trips are again, during breaks. And that’s pretty how I manage my time… @1golfer1‌

I have 5 A*, 1 A for O-levels, 1 A, 2B for AS (A-levels)
How does that match up to IB?
