and for my grades overall is 3.01 weighted and 2.997 unweighted (sophomore and freshman), my Freshman gpa is 2.6 sophomore 3.1 junior 3.6 weighted
I'm a senior now in MD Class rank is probably 25% now
I take plenty of honors classes and always get A's in all my science classes
I want to go into dental school and I plan on majoring in biochemistry or another science field (not really sure, but it's definitely a science field) I took AP Chemistry probably getting a 4 or a 3 at the lowest (teacher never taught me anything, I learned by myself) and i took AP US history probably got a 3 (not good at writing) my grades always improve my first semester freshman gpa was a 2.4 and I finished this semester with a 3.75 (I heard colleges like seeing that). I only did one after school activity and that was JROTC in my 9th grade year for half a semester and nothing else. I did and still do have a job since the 10th grade (IDK if that looks good) I'm planing at volunteering at a homeless shelter for a little bit this summer. I'm Middle Eastern but i was born in america, but I have to mark that i'm Asian. I guess that's it. I think I can get into Towson probably UMBC and UM:CP I doubt it.

Thanks for looking.

All the schools are definitely reaches. If you could get above 500 on writing, then you’d have a shot at Towson and UMBC. UMCP is definitely out of the question even though they don’t even look at writing.

Do you think I could make it without the writing part every tie i try i get a lower score

An I tried studying too, and I studied alot and it went even lower

Probably not. According to CB, only 2% of students admitted into Towson have a GPA lower than 3. The middle 50% had between 500-580(w), 490-590(m), and 490-580(r). Your math and reading fit in the range, but your writing is nowhere near and your GPA is way too low. I understand that it’s a little to late to raise your GPA, which is why you need to get your writing score in the range to at least have a shot. At UMBC, 13% of students had a GPA below 3 and the middle 50% is 530-630(w), 550-660(m), and 530-630(r). It would be tougher for you to get into UMBC and it would be best if you could raise your CR score some as well as writing. You have no chance at UMD. The average weighted GPA is 4.01 and SAT score (m+r) is 1250-1400.

Frostburg looks like a good fit with the scores you have right now.

Your score shouldn’t go down after you studied. Maybe you didn’t study correctly? I’d recommend getting CB’s official SAT book and do the practice tests and read the sections at the beginning about writing and reading. Maybe you should try and get a tutor or find a SAT prep class as well.

Are you sure my cousin also got a low score on the writing part but got accepted to george mason but he did have a 3.4 overall.

I can’t be certain, but as you can see, your stats are way below average. A 3.4 is a lot better than a < 3.0. George Mason doesn’t look at writing, so the fact that he had a low writing score didn’t impact his decision. Maybe you should look into applying there? Your Math and CR scores are in their range, but only 2% of students have < 3.0. Do have any sort of hook? You mentioned that you’re an over-represented minority, which is just going to make it more difficult, but are you low-income or a first generation college student?

my cousin is low income so I guess that makes sense, and I’m high income (does that put me at a disadvantage)
My nationality is from Pakistan and Afghanistan I don’t know what you mean by over represented minority though, and my gpa weighted should be like a 3.2 overall because that old overall gpa did not have my junior year gpa in it.
But I’ll take the SAT again and use my free time to study for the writing part.

I wouldn’t really say that being high income puts you at a disadvantage. Just not an advantage.
Well colleges are going to see that you’re Asian, which is a minority, but unlike hispanics and african americans, Asians usually have better test scores/grades. Hence, putting you at a disadvantage.

Yeah I will definitely retake the SAT.
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Also I want to get work release next year is that a bad idea.

You could also try taking the ACT to see if you do any better on that.
I’m not really sure about work release. It would probably look better in the eyes of colleges if you took all academic classes and did well in them to show the upward trend of your grades.

I took it and only once this is what I got

23 combined

English 21
Usage/Mechanics 10
Rhetorical Skills 10

Mathematics 26
Pre-Algebra/Elem. Algebra 14
Algebra/Coord. Geometry 12
Plane Geometry/Trig. 14

Reading 21
Social Studies/Sciences 12
Arts/Literature 09

Science 25

Combined English/Writing 19
Writing (score range 2 to 12) 06

Also I plan on taking AP BIO, AP Calculus AB, AP Environmental, and Physics honors next year. Thats with work release. I don’t plan on adding any more tough classes or I may do bad. If I don’t do work release the rest classes will be BS classes.

By the way I was really sick for the ACT

23 ACT = 1620 SAT. You have a 1600 right now for SAT superscored. I’d definitely take the ACT’s again in Sept., especially since you were sick the first time. If you could raise your score to at least a 26, then your chances for UMBC and Towson would improve a lot. If you had to choose between preparing for SAT or ACT, I’d say prepare for ACT because you’ve already taken the SAT’s so many times and you would have thought that you score would have gone up more.

Regarding your schedule…where’s english? The four classes that you listed are great, but I’d really think that staying in school would be better. You don’t necessarily need to take anymore AP classes, but try and find some electives, like computer science or sociology or psychology, that don’t involve a lot of outside work.

The thing is I really hate school (My school is known to be one of the worst in the county) on top of that I’m not a morning person I have to wake up at 5:20 for school, and I can’t stand waiting so long. two classes a day makes everything better, but if you think it’s really necessary that I stay a full day there is this one program where you get early release, and you take college classes at the community college, but the problem is that I maybe moving, to another school, so I can’t fully oblige myself to that program.

Oh and I forgot to mention Eng Honors I might drop physics.
