What are my chances for U Michigan? Animal Science/Biology Major?

My dream school is University of Michigan but I understand that it is an extremely selective school and I am out of state. Here are some of my stats and I would really appreciate it if you guys think it is a reach( it is) what may I do to improve my chances? Any help is much appreciated!!

School: Top Public school in OH

GPA: 3.79 UW and 4.23 W ( Freshman year I had a 4.37W and then sophomore 4.33W-will this downward trend be really bad? I was in an incredibly toxic and quite abusive relationship Junior year plus I increased APs every year…)

ACT: 31 with writing and 32 without writing (I know this is on the lower end for Michigan so I am definitely retaking it in Sept)

Rank: School doesn’t do rank but I am assuming at top 15-20%

Rec Letters: I anticipate them to be really good because I got my English teacher’s and her’s are the most competitive at our school and she also really likes me and has taught me for two years and also my AP bio teacher who knows how hard I work to get an A in his class.

Essay: I am not sure what I can write about rn but I have signed up for essay workshops taught by professional counselors so I hope/ trust it will be fine

What I worry most is how to explain my downward grade trend and also how my extracurriculars don’t really emphasize on science. Will this be a huge problem?

Thank you so much if you can help me!

Have you considered looking at Michigan State University? UMich’s vet program is centered on Lab Animal care and management. If you’re looking for more support in companion animal medicine…MSU is a terrific school. MSU has a veterinary emergency clinic and lots of opportunity for topics related to pet animal health.

Not to say you couldn’t get an excellent pre-vet education at UMich…but MSU has lots of resources and opportunities for people interested in being veterinarians.

For that matter, Ohio State is excellent for veterinary medicine…and would be in state for you = half the cost.

Michigan does not have an animal science program.

Ecological and Evolutionary Biology is what OP would be looking for I assume.
