an issue is that OP is an international with VERY HIGH need. So it all depends whether OP would rather study Engineering even if it means studying in Egypt, or whether OP would rather study in the US even if it means compromising on the major.
(A third way would be for OP to study in Germany or Switzerland, since I think s/he studies German).
Engineering is highly sought after major for internationals, most of whom can be full pay or near full pay, so they’ll have priority over OP. And to make it even harder, not all “meet need for internationals” colleges offer Engineering. So, that’s a lot of applicants to a smaller set of programs (compared to physics).
That being said, I understand Engineering is not Physics, so it’s all a matter of priorities.
OP could investigate Vanderbilt, Rice, other 'need aware/meet need for internationals" universities that offer Engineering.
Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering would have more OPT options than other forms of Engineering (Aerospace, as mentioned upthread, isn’t open to internationals, hence, no OPTs).
Yeah this kind of summarizes it, I’ll probably not compromise on my major and take my chances with top schools that don’t take in consideration need, such as MIT, princeton, harvard, etc, cause I believe my chances while slim, are better than nothing, and also of course apply to a bunch of need aware/meet need and merit universities that would match what I’m looking for, but I’ll still apply to bowdoin RD, that said, I know my chances are low, but after researching for a while, I don’t believe it is as low as some people mentioned ‘‘no point in applying to top colleges because of their chances’’ or something like that upthread, I believe I definitely have a shot so I’ll shoot it and hope for the best, I don’t believe my chances are negligible because I believe my stats are decent for an international student, especially one from my area and the fact that not many from Egypt apply internationally, specifically not from my area will give more reason to accept me hopefully
I’ll take a look at the colleges you mentioned, thanks!!
I like engineering because of the fact that I build and tinker, I am more interested in that than in theoretical concepts
The net price calculator…even taking out the Pell Grant and U.S. federally funded loans should be viewed as an estimate only for international students.
Also, the NPCs are currently set for students enrolling in fall 2023, and that is not this student. And yes…financial aid awarding policies and formulas do sometimes change.
