What are my chances in getting into an Ivy League Med School?

Hi, so i got accepted to these three colleges:

  1. University Of Minnesota
  2. Indiana University
  3. Arcadia University

I’m planning to get a degree in biology. If i am able to get a 4.0 in those any of those schools and do great on the MCAT will i be able to be accepted into any of the ivy league med schools? I’ve been told that it is possible but on the other hand i’ve been told that coming from these schools would lower my chances.

Why do you want to go to an Ivy League medical school?

I would say that you are way ahead of yourself. No problem anticipating the future and setting goals. But a lot will happen over the next 4 years and you are likely to change your mind, or develop your mind, in a number of areas of interest/disinterest. Of course, you will also need to choose a specialty which is a major determinate of where you choose to go for residency.

I went to IU for medical school years ago. It is an excellent medical school and you will have a lot of opportunity for residency options. The specialty you choose and where you do your residency is much more important than a single-minded focus on Ivy League.

@crazejoj of course getting into any ivy league medical school is hard but not all ivy league med schools are created equal. Harvard and Penn are established top 5 med schools. Columbia and Yale established top 10 schools. Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth medical schools are usually not ranked as highly. So a Dartmouth medical school acceptance is quite easier than a Harvard medical school acceptance. I dont think any of these three colleges will make a difference. Just focus on getting top GPA, MCATS and great research & volunteering experience.

This helped a lot, thank you! I just thought that if I was accepted to an Ivy League School, it would be a crazy amazing experience and education. But, then i guess i realized that it’s too important

Medical school is about getting in and being happy you did. For an ivy league school, it’s pretty much dumb luck. Famous Dr. Ben Carson went to the University of Michigan.

@coolguy40 Ben Carson may not be the greatest example haha.
