What are my chances in getting into an Ivy-League?

Hey, I'm new at this forum.

So I'm a Sophmore in a small-town high school in Maine of 206 students in my class. There are approx. 800 students at my school. It's not too early to start thinking about college and stuff... I'd really like to get into an ivy-league school. But if I don't, it's not going to kill me. I would like to perhaps make it into Boston College or Boston University. But I'd like your opinion on whether I could actually make it or not.

Basic Information:
Public High school
Year: Sophmore
Ethnicity: Chinese
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Rank: 1 out of 215 students.
GPA: 101.7 (weighted)
Grades: I have all A's. Haven't recieved a B in my high school career.

Classes:
I take all honors and all the AP courses that my school offers. For this year, I can only take AP US History. For next year, I plan on taking AP Stats and AP US HISTORY Part II. Senior year, I plan on taking AP Government, AP English, AP Calculus, AP French. Basically, that's what they offer.

Atheletics:
I'm not the most strongest athelete, but I tried soccer freshman year... didn't like it. I was also on the JV tennis team last year. I liked it, so I'm playing again this year.

EC's: (I intend to take most of these EC's for the rest of my high school career, especially the music and drama ones)
Jazz band: Grades 9,10
Pep band/ Marching band: 9, 10
Speech team: Grades 9, 10
Drama/Theatre: Grades 9, 10
Rotary Interact: Grades 9, 10
Homecoming committee: Grades 9,10
Student Council: Grade 10
Class Treasurer: Grade 9.... switched over to student council because I didn't feel I was doing enough as the treasurer
Newspaper Staff: Grade 10... joined on a whim, but it's wicked fun
JV girl's soccer: Grade 9
JV girls tennis: Grade 9, and probably grade 10
Amnesty International: Grades 9, 10

Honors and Awards: (some of these are kind of small awards, but in a small town like this, there aren't too many trophies to be handed around)

Foreign language department award: Grade 9
Maine Youth Excellence in Art: Grade 8-9
Destination Imagination: Grades, 5,6, 8(That was a while ago, I know)... 8th grade we got 2nd place in states
Speech and Drama department award: Grade 9
Kennebec Valley Band (auditions only): Grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (this year, I got 2nd chair)
KVC Speech Championship, poetry 1st place: Grade 10
Maine Principles Association State Speech Championship...second place poetry: Grade 10
Maine Principles Association State Speech Championship...third place ensemble: Grade 10
...And I'm not sure if this is useful, but I recieved "Most Outstanding Freshman" award in the music department.

Community service:
I am in the rotary interact club, and I do some community service through that. I also volunteer to serve for things through my favorite extra cirriculars such as music and speech/drama. I have about 33 hours or so. =/

SATS:
SAT scores are unavailable, but I completely bombed my PSATS, which I almost cried over since they would likely foreshadow my scores on the SATS. But I plan to study intensely for them, especially over the summer. My PSATS were an unfortunate 163. T_T

Other Info:
I plan on applying to National Honors Society next year. My school only offers it to juniors and up.

I play the trombone. ^_^

Though I am in a lot of extra cirriculars that I have been sucked into and fell in love with, my favorite is speech and drama. I thorougly enjoy it; I have a blast, and I'm not bad at it.. I scored the lead role in the fall production this year.

Okay.. thanks for reading all that. =)

Too little information.

Anything could happen junior/senior year.

Also, we don't know what you're going to get on your SATs at all because it's possible to improve several hundred points.

With your ECs and if you keep up your good grades and get past 2100 on the SATs, then I'd say you'd have a fine chance at several Ivy League schools.

Agree with Flippy............and your Sats foreshadow, shows sign that ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN........examples, drinking habits after junior prom, get laid by bf, dont care about school anymore cuz asian parent drive you crazy about doing well in school, do bad at sats and loose confidence and dont try to do good at all, Senioritis leads to failure in classes, overwhelmed by ec's, want to have blue eyes like the girl in bluest eye by toni morrison, Ivy are tired of Chineese becuase of U.S. Chino conflicts and tensions, war breaks out and lead to Chinese Internment Camps, Ivies dont want Chineese anymore because of Massive Chinese Baby Boom, get abducted by CHineese Triads, and get saved by a maritial art chinese policeman and a black cop, your lust of massive EC leads to you to a trip to africa where you get attacked by a giant ape, meet a rich man and marry him and then he dumps you, Asian parents go nuts cuz you get one B in high school and throw you out of the house, deported to China because of illegal status, Ivies are tired of Chineese, because of too much chinese in their colleges, end up in jail for the preaching the teaching of HO CHI MINGH, decide♠ to get married and forget school, some other chinese comes to your school and beat you for first place, leads to battle of Chinese, end up in jail, get pranked where the hottest guy in school sleeps with you and then dumps you..........DID REALLY HAPPEN IN MY FRIEND"S SCHOOL, decide to join the military so you give up on school....or WORSE GET REJECTED BY EVERY SINGLE IVY...........so you can see anything can happen

way too early to know.

maintain your grades (it doesn't seem like it's possible to go any higher), bring up your SAT scores and take on leadership roles and you'll be fine.

come back with more information (around end of jr)

i agree...way too early to tell. I got really bad on my PSAT's when i was a sophomore but then got around 2100's on my SAT I. So don't worry about it too much. Scores aren't everything.

Good luck! =)

Wait...what in the world is AP U.S. Part II? There are no "parts" to AP USH. Do you mean you're taking it over two years? That's insanely slow and pointless.

Don't worry about your PSATs. I brought mine up from 1700 to 2100 from Sophmore to Junior year. Maintaining grades is the most important things along with continuing ECs.

^^ same here. I went from a 171 (ish?) to a 212 just by preparing a bit more (i missed NMSF by like four points gar - i'm still bitter).

additionally, try the ACT. and, whereas the collegeboard will send results from every SAT administration you take - so colleges can see all of your screw-ups (though they ignore the lower scores), ACT lets you choose which administrations you would like to send to colleges (i.e. if you take it and bomb it, no one ever has to know!).

The thing about ACT: is it really true?

Is the ACT like in general, harder than the SAT or no?

Hey there,

I don't know if PSATS "foreshadow" or not. I got a lower score in junior year than in freshman year, and seriously, seriously, always did better on my SAT's that PSATs, by a lot(I took them once each in freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year, because of my wierdo dad)

Any-how, bestmiller seems to focus a lot on you being chinese. That's not really a problem, I don't think.

You aren't doing badly. Better grades than me at that point, and not a math/science freak like all the other asians over here, but that's still awesome :-) Personally, I think your EC's are pretty strong.
But the other posters are right,
give it a year and see where you are

You have never gotten a B in your high school career?

umm...welll...you are a sophomore so...

Well... I mean, not on my report card. I've gotten B's on papers and such though.

-___- that doesn't count.

Seriously,
you're doing pretty well. Give it a year and see how you are,
just don't burn out or do anything crazy, that's all.

^ Assuming that I don't burn out, what kind of SAT scores must I absolutely have in order to get into an ivy-league?

And exactly what awards and extra cirriculars that I so far have are useful? Like, do the speech state championships mean anything? Etc.
