what are my chances/IVy LeAguE!

I'm a junior. Class rank #4
so far I have taken Ap Us History(A), AP world history (A), AP Spanish 4 (A), next yr senior yr im planning on taking Calculus AP, Physics 2AP, English 4AP, Psychology AP, Spanish 5AP, Govt/eco AP! I'm pretty sure I will make A's.
So far ive been involved in :
Student council(treasurer), Soccer and cross country(freshman yr), christian club thing, national honor society, spanish national honor society(its not for hispanics its for anyone who takes spanish for 3 yrs and maintains an A), junior gals, thats pretty much it.

VOlunteer hours: probably around 100 so far..but planning on more over the summer..

SAT: havent taken it yet but based on PSAT score around 1400..

Problem is, I will be applying for college in the middle of first semester senior year, and my "challenging" courses won't show up, I believe.

What do you think my chances are..?? And what can i do to increase my chances?

oh yeah 4/750 people? and i've taken the toughest courses offered at my school so far.

score around 750 on sat 2s and you have a shot

I don't think a 1400 on the SATs will cut it. You probably need a 1500 or high 1400s to get into an Ivy.

Sats aren't everything, but yeah HYP you might need 1550, others u have a good shot I think where you r

i think you need to boost your ECs...i don't see anything too special or time consuming (unless i'm mistaken)...also, try to raise that SAT score and do well on the SAT IIs. you're a little on the low side right now, and even though i know they arent the end all be all of admissions, it never hurts to have a more solid score, especially since you seem to have a relative weakness in terms of activities. your GPA and classes are looking good.

g'luck!

how can i boost my EC's?? any ideas about starting a club or anything like that? my school's EC's aren't too great.

pretty bad chances. you probably should apply to second tier schools only, like Tulane etc.

ranger ur an f-ing *******, you can say "pretty bad" chances in a nicer way, if your intentions are to put me down, then congratulations.

I've just got here and I know that people can be brutally honest - or just plain brutal. Don't let what he said get to you. It could be worse. You could be me. :)

The problem with HYP is that they are lottery tickets for everyone. Your class rank and classes are great. Your SAT's and SAT II's will be very important, obviously, and I would suggest looking into taking at least one SAT II in June - scheduling tests and retests is more of an issue than you would think senior year.

Prep for you SAT II's - if you can score in the 750-800 range, it will be very useful. Some schools want 2 II's with the new SAT, some want 3. A 1400 SAT is not competitive at Yale unless you are an athlete, international (with a low verbal score), legacy or URM. In my opinion - and its just my opinion, regular people probably need upper 1400's for it to be worth the bother of applying. If your SAT comes out around 1400 (or 2100 new SAT), Cornell, Dartmouth or Columbia might be reasonable reaches. Apply where ever you want, be just be aware that some of these places are pretty hard to get into.

As far as EC's go, you might also work on projects or leadership within your existing clubs. If you start one, do so in your junior year so its doesn't look like a just for college thing. More volunteer hours - or a job - would be good on your application.

There are many wonderful schools out there that aren't Ivy. What majors are you interested in?

ranger you shouldn't be on these forums saying stuff like that, first of all Tulane is not second tier, it is in top 40, and second of all your mean.

you're*........I can spell

if your score a 1450 on the old SAT or a 2200 on the new one, and above 700 SAT II scores and AP scores with 5s and 4s. I think your have solid chance for schools like Cornell, Duke, Brown. But for better colleges, I think you need to present them with a much better resume.

thanks so much!!!! oh yeah and i already have a job, i'm a tutor and currently volunteering a lot. Do the colleges actually look at the AP scores??

important question!! i moved to the US from russia in 8th grade! i know im not considered an international student, or am I? will i still be in the "minority" group or whatever?? or have a better chance in getting in?

s3xigurl, I've been asking myself that question for the past 6 months. I got to the US 4 years ago(8th grade). I do not have a green card yet (im currently applying for colombian assylum), and i have no idea on whether or not I have to apply as international.

Another thing that worries me is my Verbal SAT score. I hate using "but English is my second language" as an excuse when applying to top colleges, but in a way its true. The only weird thing, and I find this really odd, is that somehow my Writing score is 750+ (760 on PSAT).

Where do you want to apply to? I love Cornell and I hope my math and writing scores, along with solid Sat II scores, will help me get in there.

But again, aid is an issue if we are internationals... (Are WE, yes or no?!?!?!?)

I'm pretty sure you're not an international student. (Not sure about jdelavalle) And if you're white, you're probably still not a minority, either. Sorry. Try to mention your Russian origin in an essay if you want to get it in.

you are not international applicant. You are a foreign applicant. If you are russian, you can emphasize your multicultural background and have an advantage. APs are important, so try to get 5s on the exams.

they actually check AP scores??????
