Wow, very impressive. As for colleges, I would say just about any school here in the States would accept you. Your zip code (colleges like to have students from all over the world), SAT, GPA, and extracurriculars should get you in almost any school. Depending on where you’re looking (Ivy League or State College), you could get a lot of money from some schools, even a full ride.

You have a very diverse set of ECs, great grades and colleges especially love people who are interested in computer science. I’m not too sure about your SAT score compared to your other grades, but it might be okay. I would do a little bit more research, but I would say definitely apply to the Ivies and top 20 universities, but also apply to some safeties (UofT, UBC, Canadian universities that you are familiar with and willing to go to if all else fails).

What area are you looking to go into? That would be helpful - some programs are better than others in certain areas, but you also want to look at campus life and etc.

Good luck on your endeavours!

I am currently looking into engineering or medical fields.

How much can you afford? That’s what will drive your school search.
As an international student, your options for scholarships are limited.

Financial concerns are insignificant

You are “qualified” but unlike Canadian universities being qualified isn’t enough.Columbia is a reach for you as for most all applicants.

Your GPA and SAT score should get you into some schools, but not the top 20. You never know, so you should apply to those that fit your personality. There are links on this page that should help. Every university has a distinct personality. What suits one student, may not suit another.

Your EC’s are CS-driven and are common-place within the international community; there are thousands of international students applying with similar ECs. (Just look at all of the posts for CS on this site.)

@mscott700, Public universities, funded by their individual states, typically don’t have the money to fund international students, but private universities may. State universities rely on their taxpayers and state to fund their universities so the advantage admissions go to the residents.

(The UC’s, for example, charge OOS and international candidates $55K per year. The student has a 3.85 GPA, which won’t get him into the top UC’s, since the instate applicants are too strong and too competitive. USC, a private university, would admit at full fees of $72K per year. )

@“aunt bea” If it helps, I am retaking the SAT in a month.

FYI: If you are a senior, your senior GPA won’t be considered by some top schools in the calculations for admission.

(The UCs top school candidates have averages over 4.0).

The going consideration is, if you have to retake a test, and didn’t get it on the first try, then the top 20 are out of range. Some of the top schools do request the multiple attempts at testing.

@“aunt bea” 3.95 is my unweighted GPA, which is scored out of 4.0. My weighted GPA is 4.26

Everything looks pretty good. Your SAT is a little on the low side for Brown, and being an international applicant will lower your chances, but you have some pretty unique components to your app. Good luck!

Except for the somewhat low SAT (could you maybe retake it?) I think your app looks good. Only thing I don’t see are 2 SAT IIs, and those are required for Brown if you submit the SAT.

Are you applying for FA? Make sure to calculate net income too; many universities need to know if you can pay around $250,000 for four years.

What is your intended major?

Your ECs are quite impressive, especially though in the tech field, so if you’re applying to a course wherein those would be helpful, all the better.

What is your UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
or better yet, use the UCB GPA calculator

UCB is always a tough admit, so if it is indeed your dream school, I would advise you to retake the SATs and aim for 1500+. I would suggest you to apply to UCLA or USC too, it seems that you have better chances there.

@oliviaesther95 My UC GPA is 3.97 and 4.26

Run the SuperMatch tool on the left side of this page.

Yes! What colleges are you interested in?

@oreo2019 I was looking into Ivies, UCs and other schools of similar calibre such as Duke and NYU.

I’d say you’re an extremely impressive applicant. Do you have any idea where in the country you’d like to be? Do you want to be driving distance from Ontario?

Unless you tell us what you might be majoring in, no one will be able to give you any ideas.

If you were interested in comp sci - I would not suggest NYU. For instance, NYU, has an excellent film school and is noted in finance (due to location to Wall Street) , gave 2 student degrees in Information Studies (out of roughly 3000 students). The Comp Sci degrees is offered at Polytechnic Institute (now affiliated with NYU), is at a different campus (3 miles away), conferred only 45 Bachelor’s (out of 220 total graduates).

So really important you tell where your interests lie.

In addition, NYU does not give good financial aid (from word of mouth thru ppl I know) and it is one of the most expensive colleges to attend in the USA.

With your stats, why would you not attend a public university in Canada?

Will you need financial aid? Can you afford $65k a year for college?
