I'm a 17 year old junior who lives out-of-state (from UCLA). Right now I have a 3.8181 GPA unweighted and a 4.968 weighted. My sophomore year I took two AP classes (Bio & Art History), as a Junior I'm taking 4 AP classes (Calculus AB, US, Language, Psych) and I'm taking the Spanish Language exam (without class). I passed my first two AP exams. I also take and have taken 3 classes at my local community college and plan to take 4 more this summer so I can have my AA degree by the time I graduate high school. As far as clubs I participate in the French Club and Math Club. I'm treasurer of the French Honor Society and part of National Honor Society, Math Honor Society and Art Honor Society. I get my community service by helping other students with the writing process. For my very first SAT I got 490 reading, 630 math, 600 writing. I plan to take it again in June. I'm just dying to know, what are my chances of getting accepted into UCLA?!?! Any help would be greatly appreciated. =]

You must raise your SAT scores (aim for 2000+, preferably over 2100 to be safe), and bring your unweighted GPA to as close to 4.0 as possible. These are the most important factors in your admission; good luck! : )

You’re GPA is wrong, PERIOD. You cannot possibly get a 4.96 unless you took EVERY HS class as an AP and got all A’s except for one class.

Seriously though, your SAT sucks and you won’t get it, sorry.

^+1. also, you meant to say that you got 3’s on the two AP exams you took, right?

One more thing, I’ve never taken CC classes, but I highly doubt it only takes 7 classes to get an AA degree anyways, which is even more useless than a Bachelor’s today.

Lol everyone keeps telling me my GPA is wrong would u like to calculate it?
Let me know I’ll tell you my classes and my grades.
And I know that it doesnt take 7 classes it takes 20 (3 credit hours each).
Ive passed my two AP exams a 4 Art History and a 5 Bio by the way (TeRRaNoXiC).
Anyways that means I have those two credits plus the three classes I have already taken plus the four I’m taking over the summer plus the five APs I’m taking now coming to a total of 13 hopefully by the end of this year. I only plan to take 2 classes at my high school next year and the rest at the CC so that rounds out the other 6 classes.

Well he may be adding a point for his highschool honors courses as well.

Yup at my school for…

AP
6 A
5 B

Honors
5 A
4 B

Dual Enrollment
6 A
5 B

Reg.
4 A
3 B

6 A’s at AP level = 6x5=30
5 B’s at AP level = 5x4=20
We’ll give you the extra point for honors…
5 A’s at Honors = 5x5=25
4 B’s at Honors = 4x4=16
Dual Enrollment - What the hell is this? Who cares, we’re giving you standard credit.
6 A’s at DE = 6x4=24
5 B’s at DE = 5x3=15
Regular
4 A’s at Reg = 4x4=16
3 B’s at Reg = 4x3=12

That equals 158 (which is your total grade points). Divide this by the number of classes (equal to 38) and you get 4.158, which unless UCLA has been lying to me and just taking my money (which it has anyways) is not equal to 4.96.

And why are you saying you’re getting an AA? Are you sure those classes even carry credit for an actual class, or do they just give you units, and if so, how many units?

You can not use more than 8 semesters worth of 1+ for AP/Honors credit.

Your GPA is much lower than you think. Seriously, do some research before you get so convinced of your 4.9gpa. Your SAT score is also terrible and you are an OOS student. Very unlikely you are going to UCLA.

UCLA is full of smart students, all of whom can calculate their gpas correctly.

“The University assigns extra points for up to eight semesters of University-certified honors-level and Advanced Placement courses taken in the last three years of high school”

They carry credit for an actual class and those are not my classes I was giving you the breakdown of the value of points at my school.
Ill show you the point values of my grades…

Sorry but please calculate it for me…?

Lol you guys are harsh. I plan on taking the SAT again along with ACT and Subject Tests I went into the first SAT blindly, absolutely no practice, so I’m hoping to get better.

I’ve never heard of getting 6 points for an A and 5 for a B. I would calculate it again based on 5 for an A in AP/honors, and 4 for a B in AP/honors.

Yeah, you need to independently recalculate your GPA on a standard scale. UCLA (or any other university) will recalculate all applicants’ GPA anyways so it doesn’t matter what it says on your transcript. The university also discounts courses that are not A-G, such as PE.

If you truly have no idea what a standard GPA calculation would look like, list all your high school courses (indicating whether they are honors or AP) and their respective letter grades and we will give you a rough GPA estimate.

FRESHMAN YEAR

• Global Studies A
• Algebra Honors A
• English Honors A
• Integrated Science Honors A
• Computing for College and Careers A
• French 1 A

SUMMER
• Geometry Honors A

SOPHMORE YEAR
• French 2 A
• English 2 Honors A
• Algebra 2 Honors A
• AP Bio B
• Business A
• World History Honors A
• AP Art History A

SUMMER (Community College)
• Freshman Composition 1 B
• College Trigonometry A

JUNIOR YEAR

• AP Language B
• Photography A
• French 3 A
• AP US B
• Chemistry Honors A
• AP Calc B
• AP Psych A
• 20th Century Humanities A (Community College)

You have a very high GPA. I project somewhere ~4.5 discounting Freshman year, community college, and non A-G courses.

Courses I predict are probably not “A-G”:
Photography
Business

You have a good chance of getting into UCLA if you significantly raise your SAT. Otherwise, you’re probably rejected.

Uc gpa: ~4.1

Go with Heaven’s projection. I’m less confident with what I’m doing. lolz

Your school doesnt have two semesters per year?
