IB scores come in july
Interested in chemistry and eventually go for pharmacist

Thanks:)

@cc31017 What hooks do you have? That ACT score is low.

My GPA and extracurriculars. Regarding my ACT score, I took it yesterday so I’m awaiting the scores to come back. I also have the opportunity to take the SAT in the fall. What do you think is a good score for that?

With a 29, you have very little chance. With a 33+ you have a realistic shot.

What about an SAT score?

@cc31017 1470+

Is there anything you’d advice me to do to strengthen my chances?

Vandy seems to be big on scores, but you do have a hook so 30+ is what you should be looking for.

Your ECs are fine, but your scores are too low even for ED as they stand. You’ll be qualified for several wonderful schools already, more places still if you raise your numerical stats a little. However, if you have all 2s on your AP exams and struggle with tests, that’s fine and all, but maybe you need to be honest with yourself about how rigorous of a college education you’re genuinely equipped for right now. I don’t know anyone here at Vandy who didn’t get almost all 5s and 4s, especially those in our challenging pre-med and STEM departments (which you’d be in if you aspire to chemistry and pharmacy). If someone here got a 2 on an AP exam, it was during senior spring and that’s it basically. So just keep that in mind - you may want to go to Vandy or one of our wonderful peer schools, but it may not actually be a good fit for you in terms of its difficulty. Just something to think about. I don’t wish to sound patronizing or dismissive of your intelligence, because you’ve done a GREAT job preparing for the college app season, but I do occasionally encounter students here who have been admitted when they weren’t realistically capable of the workload or its difficulty, and its heartbreaking for them, so I just thought I’d leave that advice for you to ponder.
