Hi everyone! Im an American student looking to apply to a college in London. Im a junior in high school and plan to go for an undergraduate LLB degree. I was wondering if anyone knew what my chances would be to get into UCL, Kings College, or Imperial College?
My scores are :
SAT: 1400
AP US History: 5
I am also taking AP English, AP European History, and AP Psychology this year and should get atleast one more 5 and two 4s
Thanks!
The UK colleges heavily prioritize AP scores. The AP courses and the scores needed differ by college, so go to each of the college’s website and it will clearly list what scores are needed.
One detail to keep in mind is there are for all intents and purposes no scholarships available through these colleges for foreign students, so you will be full pay at international rates. On the other hand, those full pay international rates are lower than comparable level US colleges and you receive your bachelor’s degree in only 3 years. If your family will be full pay in America, the UK schools total cost (remember 3 years vs 4 and slightly lower cost per year) will look like a bargain, but if you would receive need based financial aid here in America the UK schools may be financially out of reach.
Imperial doesn’t offer an LLB program- they are STEM subjects only. You will need 5s on 3 relevant APs for KCL and 3 5s and 2 4s for UCL. IF you get an offer it will be conditional on achieving those scores.
Be sure that you have read the program descriptions carefully: they are very structured, and any choices will be solely within your subject. The websites will list what classes you take each year of the course.
As milee said, you won’t get financial aid, but you can get the FAFSA loan.
Also, why would you want to get an LLB if you are American?
Ordinarily, I would say you are in if you meet the minimum requirements for KCL, but law is one of their crown jewels. UCL also has a top law program. Both would not be certain and they probably will ask why you want an LLB.
I very seldom if ever disagree with @collegemom3717 on anything UK related but in this case, perhaps. Law is one of the most competitive courses especially at the likes of UCL and Kings. To be as competitve as you can you will need 5’s on your AP classes, a language would be useful, and a compelling PS. Good luck.
^ Well, @collegemom3717 did say “IF”.
True, but applying to UCL and Kings for law with 4’s is unlikely to be successful and potential applicants need to know that.
LOL, thanks guys
@elguapo1, Kings standard offer is all 5s, so 4s would obviously not cut it. UCL is more unpredictable, as they want 5 APs, with 3 or more scores of 5, and they might give their standard offer even for Law. The OP won’t have 5 APs for UCL, so that one is dead in the water. They might surprise themselves and get 2 5s, though, and meet the KCL requirement
Btw, @jgringolts, forgot to mention that your GC will have to ‘predict’ your AP scores for next year, and IF you get an offer they will specify the conditions based specifically on those predictions. You will only know in July (when AP scores come out) if you have met the conditions.
