I know that this is one of the most annoying type of questions, but I’ve been very worried and restless lately. I attend a catholic high school in Alberta that is ranked #3 in Western Canada. My family isn’t rich, my dad makes 30,000 and my mom makes 50,000 a year. My parents recently got divorced (I’m still trying to cope with that) and my dad isn’t supportive of my learning at all. My goal is to one day become a physician and live in the United States (although I’m Canadian). I’m only a freshman in high school and I’m currently studying for my PSAT. I’m leaning towards Harvard and Princeton. I know that there is no secret formula to getting in and people with 4.0 gpa and almost perfect SAT and ACT scores get rejected. Because I don’t reside in the States, my chances are even slimmer. But here’s what I have so far:
In my school, IB and honors doesn’t start until grade 10
We don’t “start fresh” in term 2.
English: Term 1= 91 Term 2= 91
Social Studies: Term 1=91 Term 2= 91
Math: Term 1= 92 Term 2= 95
Science: Term 1= 90 Term 2= 93
French: Term 1= 94 Term 2= 94
Health, Phys Ed and Band= all A’s for both terms.
Overall gpa: 3.7
Extracurricular activities:
-ARCT (post grade 10 level) Piano
-Ping Pong and curing
-Cross country for 6 years
-tutor every weekend for elementary students
-library volunteer
-Volunteer across schools in my city
-volunteer at L’Arche (home for those with disabilities)
-Part of many clubs in my school such as debate, Cancer awareness…
Also, I have helped my grandmother (who was also a surgeon) at the hospital.
I am a top student in my class, and I know that my grades are not impressive. I’m very sure i’ll improve in the next couple of years. And i’m also going to take on some leadership roles.
