I am a junior in high school. I have a 4.1 gpa(weighted) I have taken all honors courses, and will have graduated with 3 AP classes(US HISTORY, AP BIO, and AP Lit.) I have taken the SAT twice and have an 1800. I hope to take it a third time and get an 1850. I am worried that when I apply to colleges they will not take into account that I go to a small private school and there are only 5 AP's offered, and few clubs to choose from.
I am in the following clubs:
Beta Club
Culinary Club
Interact Club
Debate team
Prom committee
My school's service club( I am VP)

I also play tennis. I train year-around. I have played varsity since I was in eighth grade. My team has once won 4 state championships and gotten runner-up once since I have been on it. I made the all-state team this past year. I also played soccer a year, and our team won the state title.

I volunteer at my church's nursery as well as in the poor part of my town on saturday afternoons distributing food, and building relationships with the people there. I also work with a local non-proft organization that works to keep drugs out of schools.

I have been on service trips to England and the Dominican Republic as well as an educational trip to Italy.( I don't know if this matters?)

Should I even bother applying to UNC-Chapel Hill? If so, what are my chances of getting in?

Are you in-state or out-of-state for UNC? Out-of-state, I’d say your chances are very low with your SAT (either current or target). In-state, your GPA is high so it’s possible if you can get your SAT up.

I hate to say it, but UNC Chapel Hill is one of the hardest public schools to get into, especially from out of state. Your course rigor will be matched up with the context of your school, but make sure your counselor mentions that when writing your recommendation. The tennis part really seems strong. Look at the average SAT score range for UNC Chapell Hill. Unfortunately, yours are a bit below the marker. Have you tried the ACT? That may be a better indicator of your skills if you have gotten an 1800 from already taking it twice. I’d say it’s definitely a reach at this point, as it is for almost everyone. A couple of really intelligent people from my school applied this year, and no one was accepted.

Look into some other schools as well that may be a better fit. Still apply, but just know that it is a highly competitive school to get into. Raise up your standardized test scores, take on leadership positions, and write a smashing essay. Pay attention to your senior year schedule, and if you can take the 2 APs that you have not already taken. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback, and I am in state.

What is your class rank? That is a good indicator of how rigorous your schedule is.

Getting into Chapel Hill is easy. You just drive there… :)

Assuming you mean UNC, that is a whole different question. They will take into account what is offered at your school. Your biggest drawback so far is your high-average (for competitive schools) test scores.

Also, I will be interning for my towns DA this summer. I checked, and am able to fit another AP into my schedule next year. I am Considering taking AP CAL, because it is the only other AP available at my school that will also fit into my schedule. However I am a bit reluctant to take it because I had a terrible Pre-cal situation. I had three different teachers during the course, and all of them were terrible. However, my dad is an engineer and could probably help me get through AP CAL. Also, if i needed to I could get a tutor. My main question is, will it greatly affect my chances of getting into UNC-CH if I don’t take it?

If you are in-state, even if your school is small, there should be a track record of previous applicants from your HS to UNC-CH even if you don’t have Naviance. How did they do?

The boilerplate answer to your AP Calc question is “take the hardest classes available to you and get an ‘A’”. Given that you struggled in Pre-Cal, I understand your reluctance to take Calculus. Will you have one of the same terrible teachers? If you think you can spend enough time and get enough help to pull a “B”, then I’d suck it up and give it a go. Your other option might be to take a summer community college course if available to you.

No, actually the AP CAL teacher I would have is very good. Thanks for the input I will probably end up taking it!

Unless you can get your SAT up, you shouldn’t count on being admitted to UNC-CH. Apply to other schools where you would have a really good chance at admission. Applying to a reach school is fine as long as you have other colleges on your list that you would be happy to attend.
