First of all, I am aware that Columbia is a very selective university with an acceptance rate of 8%. However, I read somewhere that the acceptance rate for Computer Science in Columbia is generally greater (20%). Is this true?

Assume that I have SAT score of 2100, lots of extacull. act and a 3.6-3.7 GPA. What are my chances of getting in ? Do I have a decent chance ?

What I meant was like a fairly average amount of extracurricular activities.Taught guitar, volunteered at a few marathons and hospitals and was in my school’s football team. Nothing too special tbh.

I am actually an international student, so I wouldn’t say my GPA is exact (we are scored /100) and I had a 90. Highest in our school would be around 95. I have done IGCSEs and have gotten straight A*s. Will be doing 9 APs this year, and expecting around a 4 or a 5.

^ This is where I got my information from.

Essentially, are these statistics valid? I was thinking that although Columbia is a renowned and selective university, their CS program is not on par with those of MIT, CM, UCB etc. So I assumed that their CS acceptance rate will be higher. Do my assumptions hold merit?

this is graduate school, NOT an undergraduate.
Also, that acceptance doesn’t really show how many int. students applied and how many got accepted.

Why should we “assume” your SAT score? Did you take the test? Take any subject tests? Pretty tough to get in as an international applicant with your GPA unless you have truly stellar SAT scores.

SAT score of 2030 ATM. Did the December test and I believe I quite well, hence the 2100. Took Math 2 : 800 and Physics: 770

Anyways, I was kind of misled about the acceptance rate for Columbia (didn’t realize its graduate level.) I do believe now that my chances are pretty slim, seeing the 7% acceptance rate. I think it’s a no from me.

Any final words? Also, what do you think is the best CS program I can get into with my scores? I’m sure I won’t get into 1st tier (MIT Stanford) Something along the line of Michigan (AH), GT etc. Any suggestions.

Safety: no financial problem, 100% getting in unless you murder someone
low match: very likely to get in
match: likely to get in
high match; likely to get in but some competition exists
low reach: a bit hard to get in
reach: hard to get in
high reach: VERY hard to get in. Most likely to be rejected.
Out of reach: ZERO. Don’t waster your money on application.

Because you’re an international student, the actual acceptance rate is much lower, probably 1%?

I don’t think ill be applying anymore. Seems too tough ( I have applied to other “reach” universities in case I get lucky so this will be unnecessary. Thanks for clearing things up for me !
