CU is my dream school and i really do hope i get in. Please be brutally honest with me, here is what i have to offer.

My GPA is a 2.1 at the very moment, i did very bad Freshmen and Sophomore (D's and F's) but got everything together Junior and Senior year (A's, B's, almost no C's). I wish I didn't do so bad as an underclassman.

My ACT super scored comes to around 21-23

Took honors English in freshman and sophomore year.

Took an Ap Freshman and Senior year.

Played Lacrosse Junior year.

I have been in DECA for 3 years and I am currently one of the Vice Presidents for our chapter.

I might join another club that involves helping students with special needs in sports.

I am an in-state resident and I am a first generation Serbian American to being going to college in my family.

No chance. I’d look into a junior college for two years then transfer. A 2.1 GPA does not prove you are ready for college in the eyes of an admissions officer…

and on top of that I have a major leadership role within the school with 5 awards pertaining to that club. I also believe my essays are very strong.

@bg1996 - I agree with @alyssaaa - I can’t imagine you would have a chance at CU Boulder with your GPA. Besides junior colleges, you could also look at some of the less selective in-state four year colleges. I’m sure there are a few you could get into.

This website will help you determine which in-state publics are within reach:

@alyssaaa @BldrDad I don’t mean to be rude, i respect your comments but i believe you two are overlooking the admission process. GPA cannot be everything, there are people with high gpas and high ACT scores that get rejected from schools like Boulder. The only reason why my GPA is bad is due to me being immature as a freshman and sophomore. I went from having a 1.7 to a 3.0 in my Junior year. I’ve taken honors and AP classes, I am vice president of my schools DECA chapter which is one of the biggest business programs in the country. I have been awarded countless times for my success in the program. I assist those with special needs in Unified, a special Olympics program. I speak three different languages, have traveled the world, wrote to colleges about my experiences with being a victim of Islamic radicalism and how i have lost so many family members to it. I don’t mean to brag but if you read this essay, you would think the writer would have a 4.0. To me, saying that “A 2.1 GPA does not prove you are ready for college” is quite ludicrous if you ask me, a GPA does not measure intellectual capability, nor does it define a persons character. Sure, the trend of a GPA through high school does give the officer an idea of the person’s motivation, but in my case, with an upward trend, I don’t see it as being “not ready”. I should hear back from Boulder by the end of January, i will fill you both in regardless of their decision.

^Yes, although GPA doesn’t measure intellectual capability, it does serve as a measure of how hard you work/focus in school. “A 2.1 does not prove you are ready for college” is 100% not a ludicrous statement. If you can’t succeed in a high school environment and do the work, what makes college admissions officers believe that you can succeed in college? Anyway best of luck to you.

You have one legitimate extracurricular activity, a GPA more than a full point below the school average, and an ACT score up to 8 points below the top 50% mark at Boulder. Apply to some other state schools for sure, but I just could never see those numbers and one extracurricular, no matter how good it is, get into Boulder. Essays can only help you so much. They can’t hide the numbers and the blank activities section. Being brutally honest

@illinoisgolf @SammyV6 Again… the trend. i had a 1.7 in my underclassmen years. Its hard to change my GPA that much. I went from having D’s and F’s to A’s and B’s. I was also in lacrosse

You keep referring to your 3.0 as a good gpa. That is mediocre at best. And it’s really just a 2.1, which is borderline not showing up to class. You are going against kids who maybe screwed up their freshmen year and got a 2.8 and now have a 3.5 and they still might not get in. Even with your extracurriculars its unlikely. Brutally honest.

On a better note, community colleges can be your gateway to your dream college. For most colleges a 4.0 high school gpa is a 3.5 cc gpa. If you tough it out and get through cc with the right grades you could potentially go anywhere you want. Even with a 3.2 you will have many options. What I said above has nothing to do with your capabilities or your life experiences. They all sound valid. It’s just that you kind of effed yourself your first two years. Seriously, if you don’t get in try the cc route and you will greatly open your horizons. Best of luck. Let us know
