and on top of it all I'm not Asian or Indian haha

I'm Lebanese currently living in Arizona and my life story is interesting. I was part of a revolution ,evacuated on an aircraft carrier and I've experienced many other unique scenarios .I've had an internship with a heart surgeon in Lebanon for 4 summers now.+ How is the financial aid at Duke?

I think your chances are really good. Your unique EC’s show that science/biology is a passion and somewhere you demonstrate excellence. Write good essays and don’t stress about it. How do you feel about your teacher rec’s? How do your SATs look?

BTW, were you at Nationals for CPS this year? Or was 1st place in state?

they don’t announce the results on stage but they send them to the advisors afterward. And yes i got 1st in state for CPS then 4th in nationals for biomedical debate

^^^i have really good reputations with my teachers ,im not worried about that. Ive taken an SAT practice test raw without studying and got a 1900. The only thing im kinda worried about is my rank. I never had the chance to take any summer school classes so my ranked slipped over the years while my friends surpassed me and im just as smart as them. My parents also make below $60,000. I tried shooting for Harvard or Stanford but i feel like they are out of my reach now. I really want to go to duke because i feel like it fits my caliber. Should i worry about my rank slipping? Wat else do i need to do to get into this school? Im not familiar with the admission process. My friend’s parents usually do all the work for them lol, while im on my own. Show me the path to acceptance hahaha

Eh, I’m not sure what the “path to acceptance” is, but I can point out some things you can work on:

*The 25th percentile in SAT I for Duke’s incoming freshman is around a 2000, so you’re on the super low end right now.

*Do you have any SAT subject tests? These are important for admissions.

*I notice that you have a lot of clubs that are science related, but have you actually DONE anything productive with your club that contributes to the school/community?

Considering the SAT I ,my scores can only improve from there once I finish studying.
SAT II: I got 730 on chem and im taking SAT II in bio and math my senior.
Am I playing it too close because my friends have all of these out of the way? I don’t know wats gonna go on regarding early application either. I think there are only 2 SAT dates left so I only have one shot at SAT I leaving me with another spot for SAT II. If I don’t get the score I want on the SAT I then im gonna have to retake it instead of the SAT II. Thats wat im scared of at the moment. SAT I is my priority at the moment. Regarding the clubs, you can see my contribution in HOSA and neuroscience, I forgot to mention that I got top ten percent in the state math competition. I’m gonna join more clubs next year that have competitions like science olympiads and quiz bowl. Alot of my clubs involve fundraising and charity work too. Im really worried about the deadline of things. I just need to set up a few goals and go for them. Looking ahead makes me feel overwhelmed. I need to know wat to do. My friends have been doing SAT I and II since freshman year without telling. My parents were never aware of anything so I had to figure out the system on my own.I feel like im at a disadvantage because every else knew the system ahead of time. I have one more year left to make up for my past issues. Am I in a bad postion? What should I do ?

Very few people have a 100% chance anywhere - especially not a top school. The only way to have a 100% chance is to get an acceptance letter before you apply.

If you’re asking for people to chance you, you probably don’t know what you’re talking about. (As further evidenced by thinking someone has a 100% chance at Duke).

On topic…

You have a strong application as long as you bring your ECs to life in an essay. In list form, they don’t really have much substance.

Overall, I think you have a shot if you put time into the application and keep your grades up during your senior year. Of course, Duke will still be a reach for you.

The best advice I can give you to improve your chances is:

Get excellent first semester senior year grades.

Do well on the SAT and take the ACT to see if you do better on that.

Write a solid essay on your ECs.

Really, though, the best way to improve your chances would be to apply 3 years ago ;).

I think you have a very good chance, considering your GPA and extracurriculars (especially since they’re focused on science!) To improve your chances, just focus on getting a 2200+ SAT and that Math II.

Of course you have time for ED, but you only have a few sat test dates to meet the November 1st deadline ( some schools will accept november test dates for ED, others won’t. Check duke’s site). You definitely need to up your scores to get a shot at getting in. Are you a US citizen and/or have a green card?

Is it possible to apply for early admission and submit the scores after applying? I feel like i need more time lol.The subject tests are killing me haha

Doctors without borders is an association for doctors to travel to impoverished nations and provide free medical care. Since you are clearly not an M.D., you cannot be a member of the real Doctors without Borders
