what are my chances of getting into grad school with a sub 3.0 gpa

My gpa was a 2.9 at an ivy (major:biology). as an undergraduate, i participated in two 10-week summer internships and am currently volunteering at a lab on student schedule for 8 months now. i am currently pursuing a masters at a mid rank program and have a 3.1 gpa. what are my chances of getting into a phd program?

With a 3.1 graduate GPA? Not great, I’m afraid - unless your research performance has been incredibly outstanding.

Yeah, I agree with polarscribe. The way to overcome a low undergraduate GPA is to get an MS and succeed, but with only 8 months of research experience and a 3.1 GPA at a mid-ranked program, your chances don’t look good - at least not for top programs. You might (might) be able to gain admission at a mid-ranked or low-ranked PhD program, but it may not suit your needs.

Get an MS or do a 1 year post-bac…heavy on the research…
