I am currently a sophomore in high school. My sister is a sophomore at Midd right now. After visiting her 5-6 times since she has been there, I am utterly enamored by Midd! I won’t get into it too much, but Midd has everything I want in a college and in my future. I know it’s early, but right now I’m looking to major in International Relations and minor in Spanish. Things can certainly change, but I absolutely know that I will be applying to numerous LACs in the future. Here are some of my stats:
Average: 95.25/100
Rank: Will not receive until the summer
SAT (new format): 1300/1600
ACT: Taking in the fall of my junior year (next year), my guidance counselor expects me to score somewhere between 31-34
ECs: JV Soccer 8,9 (Captain both years)
Varsity soccer 10
Varsity Basketball 9,10
Student council - President of my class every year since 6th grade, expected to remain president for next two years
Leo’s Club 9,10 (Community Service)
DECA Club
Stage crew 9
I work 12 hours a week at a local plant nursery
I will continue with varsity soccer, varsity basketball, student council (class president as well), Leo’s club, and DECA. I am also going to join the Community Service Organization and the Language Club next year and will continue with those senior year as well.
I am in Honors classes and the only AP that my school offers to sophomores (AP World, two year course so I took it last year also)
Next year I’ll be taking:
Trigonometry
AP Composition
AP Biology
AP U.S. History
AP Psychology
Spanish III (honors/AP Spanish is not offered at my school)
Senior year I will take:
AP Physics
Government
Economics
AP European History
Pre Calculus
Spanish IV
AP Literature
My father works for a man who graduated from Middlebury College, donated large sums of money to Midd, and was the former US ambassador to France, and is also a very prominent investment banker. He would be able to put in a very good word for me, as he did for my sister.
My sister applied ED and was accepted, she had an interview too. Her average may have been a bit higher, her SAT was a 2200/2400. She was also class president for the same amount of time that I will be. I probably have some more extracurricular activities than her.
Also, I’m a standout basketball player for my varsity basketball team. I am currently in the recruiting process and have the potential to be actively recruited by the Midd coach, her and I have talked briefly. The recruiting process will heat up next year, I’ll have a better idea of whether I really have a chance on getting an offer from the coach next year. If I were recruited, I would probably play freshman year and then quit. I’m not into the Atwater, athletic scene to be honest. That could definitely change, it’s just where I’m at right now.
I know it’s premature, but I think I really do have my heart set on Middlebury. It feels like home to me (not because my sister is there), but because I’ve come to know the campus so well and it reminds me of home.
So, what are my chances of getting into Midd as of right now??
