So I am a high school sophomore who is taking AP Psych, AP World History, and AP Art History. I don’t know how high my weighted will be but I’m planning on having A/B in all of those as far as grades go. I am also taking algebra 2, and I am wondering what math I should take because I want to major in business (stats/AP stats, or Pre Calc/Calc? Consider I am bad at math and am leaning towards stats, but want a second opinion.) I am planning on taking more AP’s junior and senior as well, and I want to get into Columbia, Fordham, Hunter, or NYU. Consider I am also a hispanic female. Judging by this, what are my odds? (My unweighted is 3.8)
Chancing as a sophomore is meaningless – you just have one year of a GPA and no standardized tests. For now you should focus on:
–Working had and doing as well as you can in the most challenging curriculum you can manage.
–When the time comes study for standardized tests.
–Get involved in activities you care about and work towards making meaningful contributions to those activities.
–Enjoying spending time with your family and friends.
And if you want business I’d suggest you take calculus if possible (or at least pre-calc). And when the time comes Baruch is another school you might want to consider if you want business and money is a factor in your decision.
I know I won’t get in as a sophomore, I was asking for more of an estimate at the rate I’m going if I have good chances, or at least to be told about some qualifications I may be missing. Thank you for the feedback! (P.S.,Do you think it would be wiser for me to apply for early decisions as a junior or to just apply senior year?
I was saying that as a sophomore it is way too early to know where you will be senior year in terms of your GPA, standardized testing, activities etc. so it is impossible to opine on what your chances for any of those schools will be. I would suggest you come back to CC junior year when you have more data points and that you apply senior year. For now stay off CC and focus on doing your best and making the most of your HS years.
