Hi,
I recently finished applying to:
Andover
Exeter
Deerfield
Groton
Governor’s Academy
St. Pauls
and
Loomis Chaffee
Please let me know my chances of getting into each!! I’m really nervous!
I have straight A’s and go to a private school (where all of the classes are accelerated aside from math, where there are different levels) I’m in Algebra 1 in 8th grade.
My SSAT score is 2079 but I retook it and will hopefully get higher!
My EC’s are:
Inducted into National Junior Honors Society in 2013
JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation - Nevada Chapter) Youth Ambassador and member
of Speakers Bureau
Student Council member 2012 through present (excluding 2014) - serving as Student Body
Secretary for 2015-16 school year
I was accepted into Concert Choir in the beginning of 7th Grade.
I did a philanthropy project collecting boxes of art supplies for F.E.A.T. (Families for Effective Autism
Treatment)
Founder/Editor In-Chief of the Adelson Student Newspaper, which is currently being created
Junior Board of Directors member for Rosenbluth Family Foundation (our private family foundation
established in 2010)
JDRF Nevada Chapter Youth Ambassador Historian for the 2015-2016 year
Writing piece being published in the magazine, Sippur, in early 2016
Was 2nd place in the TPC Tennis championship in 2015
Was Grand Marshal and had my own team at the JDRF One Walk in 2015
Was cast as Captain Hook in the school production of Peter Pan
I also recently emailed them a supplemental list of activities that follows:
I was accepted into the Cambridge Scholars Programme at the University of Cambridge in England
I won the school wide spelling bee
I won the class wide Hebrew Vocabulary Contest
I was also on a radio show for Type 1 Diabetes that airs internationally and was asked to become a more regular guest star on there
Wow @ivydreamer01 , you seem to be really active with your philanthropic work! I can not tell from your test score what percentage you placed in for your grade. The percentages do matter on the SSATs. I will say, as far Andover, Exeter, and St. Paul’s it probably helps a smidge (all other factors being equal) that you are from Nevada–as it is a somewhat less represented state. BTW, a Hebrew vocabulary test sounds like fun. So many of my favorite expressions are Yiddish. For instance, you don’t seem to lack chutzpah! Good luck! [-O< :-SS :-bd
I’m new to the process but from what I can see, you seem to be an excellent candidate! I think you don’t have anything to be nervous about. Did you go through the interview process? If you did, how do you feel about those? Good luck!
@SoccerMom2018 I did, and I seemed to click with all of them. Some of my best highlights (although these are my top choice schools) I went into great depth about my love of reading for Andover, and then he talked to my mom about what a strong candidate I was, so I think that it was a good interview. (It was an alumnae off-campus interview) and Exeter we got to talking and were talking about Exeter and me for well over an hour, and I have kept in touch a bit with my interviewer. He was very nice, and he was worried about my school cooperating because they would not want to lose me as a student (my school goes k-12) Deerfield was a skype interview, and it went very well, the talk flowed naturally and it lasted for about 35 minutes (which is pretty long for a skype interview). The other schools went very well, but these were the three I believe I clicked with the most and I’m hoping for acceptances from them, although I’m very nervous! Is one of your children applying to boarding school? And thank you!
It depends on how your interview goes. I’m not the best student, but I’m great w interviews. That’s why Loomus chaffe is killing to have me. Also, what % was your ssat?? Just wondering, what is Loomus chaffes ranking??
I believe the average (although I think it’s really the median) is 78% at the Loomis Chaffee School but that’s from Boarding School Review which may or may not be accurate.
Hi so it seems you commented on my chance so I’ll comment on yours. You truly have amazing stats and the amount of work that you’ve put
into everything you’ve done is amazing. I hope to see you next year at Andover or Exeter good luck!
It is spelled Loomis Chaffee first of all and you can’t definitively say that they are “killing to have you” until you are holding an acceptance letter on M10. Humility goes a long way.
Auto correct @LaxPrep but my interviewer even told me that I have to visit the school bc I was so fun to talk to. They have sent me a total of 8 personal emails from their sports and music department. And when I did visit, their baseball coach told me he needs a player like me on his team. A “blow out pitcher.” Also, I’m a legacy. My mom and my dad went there. I can also pay full tuition.
They want you to apply, whether or not they accept you is a completely different thing. They have told me numerous times that they think I’m an impressive young man who sounds like I would make a great addition to their school. They do not necessarily want you or I, rather they want us to apply so they have the option. Although you do sound like you have a good chance @joebspy5
joebspy5: humility does go a long way. you said you arent the best student but you are great at interviewing–in the future getting things you want might not be so easy. Just food for thought.
When I mean I’m not the best student i am an A and A+ and and occasional B+ student. @Center When I said I’m not the best student, I wasn’t using it diplomatically.
Also I don’t need to be the best student because I played for Team USA in baseball this summer. They are pretty good. Pretty amazing actually.
Oh and btw I think u have a good shot at all of those schools. As long as your recommendations and essays are good, I don’t see why you wouldn’t get in. (Assuming you do better on your SSAT)…
Tell me how you do on March 10th!!
