I have a 3.412 GPA with 23 credit hours so far.

I'm trying to get into Rice's Chemical Engineering program for the Fall 2013 semester.

I am currently taking Calc 1 and Chemistry II.

I will have taken Calc III and almost be done taking Chemistry and Calculus classes before I apply.

I'm currently in the honors program at my community college and hold a part-time job.

What do you think my chances are for getting into Rice University?

For people who got in as transfer students, what GPA do I need to have to have a good shot at getting in?

From what I have heard, Rice University is a pretty “easy admission” school. I think a 3.4 HS GPA is probably good enough to get in, so I’m thinking you’ll be ok.

The above poster is completely misinformed. Rice university is a prestigious and incredibly selective university. You will need a much higher gpa unless you have some extenuating circumstances in which you can explain your gpa.

Gonna need more info than that. Are those all your ecs? SATS/ACTs?

My friend applied to rice engineering with a 33 composite act and a 4.1 GPA. He was denied.

Yeah, no sure what Future is talking about… Rice is widely regarded as being a “new ivy” and is a top 20 school in the nation. I’m not too familiar with their transfer admissions, but 3.4 definitely seems low by Rice standards.
