What Are My Chances of Getting Into UC Davis and UC Irvine?

Hey, so I am currently a junior and heres my information.

My GPA is a 4.25 weighted and 3.94 unweighted (My grade for this semester is looking pretty good too.) I am also in the top 10% of my class as of now. I did not take any ap or honors classes my freshmen year (we were not offered any) sophomore year I took Honors Chemistry. Junior year I took Honor American Lit, AP Environmental science and Honors Pre Calculus. We picked classes for our senior year and I am planing to take Honors Physics, AP Statistic and AP Economics.

As for my ACT I took it once and got a composition score of 24. I am planning to retake it in like 2 weeks, but I just finished taking a practice test from the Real ACT prep book and I have not improved :frowning: . (Trust me I have been studying … I’m stressed and nervous.)

As for extracurricular and community service. I am a member of two clubs, UNICEF and CSF, and a president of one club, Smart Energy. I volunteer about like 7 hours per month and I tutor students for 5 hours per week.

As for my personal statement, I’ve written it already (I know its pretty early.) and asked my counselor to read it so far and she said its pretty good, but there are somethings I could add to make it more personal.

Assuming that my grades and ACT score, what are my chance I have to get into UC Davis and UC Irvine? (Hopefully I will improve my ACT score … hopefully, I am studying my butt off)

UC’s will look at your GPA/ACT and/or SAT scores/EC’s and essays. Yes, your ACT is below the average of around 28-29 at these schools so do try to work on getting that score up. UCI is more forgiving on test scores if your GPA is above 4.0, while UCD can go either way. Your EC’s and essays can definitely boost your chances. My older son was accepted 2 years ago at both schools with a 4.2 GPA and 26 ACT score. He had good EC’s and outstanding essays, so I think these definitely helped him. Intended major will also play a part since competitive majors such as Engineering and Biology will more difficult than other majors. Do your best and apply. Good Luck.

@Gumbymom‌ Oh okay. I want to do something in the environmental field or medical field, does that affect anything?

My older son is an Environmental Science major at UCD. The UC’s have been getting increasingly competitive each year, so anything you can do to improve your chances such as increasing ACT scores, working on essays this summer and showing consistency with your EC’s. Good Luck. Make sure you have some safety schools as backups.
