what are my chances of getting into Umich(first choice), UCLA, USC, Tufts, Bucknell

Coming from a prestigious high school in MA
just finished junior year
I want to major in some sort of computer science / engineering
schools are in order of choice
using the Umich gpa calculator i have a 3.8 UW and a 4.35 W GPA
SAT
Math: 730
Writing: 680
CR: 650
SATII
Chem: 740
Math2: 720
(I'm unhappy with those but I'm taking the ACT soon and i will get a 32)
My school doesn't really do AP classes until senior year (except for history soph but i took honors instead)
This year I took (grade i received junior year follows)
Honor pre clac A-
Honors US history A-
Honors physics A
Spanish 3 A
English A
(my sophomore year i got two B+'s thats why my gpa is low)
I am very involved with varsity sports
I am on my schools mock trial team and we were one of the best in MA
WHAT ARE MY CHANCES???

You are OOS, which means Michigan will be a reach, but by no means unrealistic. Apply early action.

I went on my schools naviance and it seems like they don’t deny a ton of kids to my school,
If I’m potentially looking to be an engineer should i apply to the engineering school, or their general science college and transfer into engineering?

With both GPA and SAT below admission average for an oos student, UMich would be a reach for you. Your chance for CoE is even lower.

what are the average GPAs because it says mine is above average for excepted on naviance

Yours is only slightly below the Class of 2014’s admitted students average GPA, which was 3.85. Naviance, of course, just reflects the GPAs of students from your high school.

You are right in the range where your GPA and test scores qualify you but guarantee you nothing. Definitely apply EA and do your very best on the essay

mattmass, Naviance can be misleading because it shows data from the last 5+ years. Michigan is one of the few universities that has become a lot more selective in the last 5 years. That being said, you did mention that you come from a prestigious high school in MA, and Michigan may take that into consideration. If you attend a school like St Paul, Deerfield or Phillips Academy etc…, your academic credentials will be well regarded.

I got in with slightly worse stats and OOS with very generic essays. However, I do agree, with those stats really work on those essays. I got lucky and good essays can put you over the edge.
