Hi,

I'm a 17 year old Iranian who lives in Seattle,Washington and I'm in my senior year of highschool. I'm also currently in the running start program. I want to know what are my chances of getting into university of Washington. My goal is to work in the medical field when I'm older.

Like I said I'm currently in the running start program and I did running start in my junior year as well. Once I graduate highschool I should have about 85-90 college credits.

My GPA is a 3.4

My ACT score is a 24.

I volunteer a lot at Harborview Hospital, and a organization called International Medical Teams. I'm also applying to work at overlake hospital or Group Health.

I also play with my soccer team for about 4 years now. (Don't know if this information will help)

I want to go to University of Washington for a couple of reasons. First, since I want to work in the medical field, university of Washington provides one of the best medical programs in the nation so I would love to study there. Also, I lived in Washington my entire life and I can't imagine moving to another state and I really want to continue living here, and in state tuiton is very beneficial for me if I attend University of Washington.

Thanks for your help I'm just really worried whether or not I will be accepted At university of washington.

Your GPA and test scores aren’t very competitive. I wouldn’t say your numbers are low, but they could be much better. The average GPA for a Freshman @ UW is in the 3.6+ range, which puts you under. I would recommend finishing the year off strong. Your running start credits don’t necessarily mean much unless they all transfer to UW, I would check the UW Equivalency guide and make sure they it transfer over. Also, are you involved in sports, clubs, etc.? UW has been much more strict about that, and look for well rounded applicants. Good luck.
If it doesn’t work out, I would apply again as a CC transfer, they have a much lower GPA average and a higher acceptance rate.

I couldnt really play soccer throughout my high school years since i play for my original club for many years, and i did play tennis during my freshman year. Im planning to take the ACT again and im pretty sure i will get a higher score this time. Im wondering since im volunteering at Harborview hospital will help give me an advantage or some sort since that hospital is managed by University of Washington, as well as volunteering at International Medical Teams.

Thanks for responding, im just really nervous that i might not get accepted because this is a really big deal for me. All my family members live here as well as a couple of good friends and in state tuition can really help me out. And since i want to work in the medical field, UW offers one of the best medical programs.
