I am Junior in high school ethnic background and I want to know my chances of getting into West Point Military Academy, my dream school. By the end of my junior year I will have a 3.9 weighted gpa, 2100 SAT score and high scores on my CFA. I am on the Varsity Basketball team and was JV team captain last year. I have many volunteer hours/service clubs and was a State finalist in DECA (a business and leadership club). I also am part of the National Piano Federation along with two other honors societies. Honest feedback please andy any advice help, Thanks!
You have the right profile. Apply to this summers SLE session in january
You can find more info about applying to a service academy on ServiceAcademyForums.com
Thank you both, I will check out that forum and I am anxious because many people tell me I have no chance at getting in because I am not president of too many clubs and my gpa is relatively low. I will also be applying for an ROTC scholarship.
Your friends are wrong. I’ve sat on 3 congressional boards and I would probably recommend nomination based on the info you’ve shared here. The USMA ideal student is not the Harvard ideal student. Leadership and athletic skill are important considerations
Due to the vagaries of the nomination process, no one can chance anyone for the academies. The best advice is to put your best foot forward and hope that you are competitive enough for the district/state you are in to secure at least one nomination to the academy of your choice. You must have a nomination for your application to move to the admissions pool and then the academies choose from among the nominated candidates. How you stack up in the pool you’re in that year, and what the academies are looking for that year, no one but the academies know. Good luck.
Thank you everyone, I am hoping to get into West Point or any of the other service academies and understand how complicated the process of selection is.
