Hello, I am currently a High School Junior who is seeking to become candidate for the Service Academies, specifically West Point. I have a 3.76 weighted GPA, and a 4.76 GPA unweighted. I currently take all honors classes and two AP's. I plan on taking 4 Ap's next year for a strong schedule. I am taking calculus, physics, and ap us history. I have completed honors chemistry, biology, and 3 years of spanish. I got an 1890 sat, 1340 combined 720 CR, 620 Math, 550 Writing. I got a 31 ACT 30 math, 35 reading, 32 SR, 25 Eng. I got a 201 PSAT 69 Verbal 70 Math and 62 writing.I am ranked in the top 10% of the school. My school is very competitive in the Maryland area and we have turned out 58 service academy grads in 50 years. I have two varsity football letters, and was voted team captain this year. I have one varsity track letter. I have also played three sports at my school all year round for each of the three years. Class Vice President. NHS Member for two years. history Bowl member for one year. Leadership club member for three years. I think I have a fair chance at getting into the Boys State. I won my school science fair for a physics project in aerodynamics, I was selected as a scholarship winner for merit and leadership. I have been a volunteer coach for two years and have over 50 service hours to my name. I live in the 2nd district of Maryland, so I don't know how competitive it is for people who want to go to usma. I have applied for three academies so far and will apply to uscga when I can. I want to be a career military officer if that makes a difference. Any ideas on my chances would be very welcome. Thanks in adavance.
PS what do you think my chances are at getting selected for sle or other summer seminars.

SLE is basically a recruitment tool and it’s extremely competitive, so everyone’c chances are pretty much not too great. If you don’t get in, don’t stress over it.

Hi, I am also trying to apply for SLE-- in the same boat as you! I have been trying to grab unto all the info I can find. However I feel like I shouldn’t be spending my life just avidly surfing these forums when I could be doing other useful things.
I know I don’t have any credentials to be giving advice on this specific topic. However, I do believe that we should just sit tight and let the admission office process it. No one can give you a great answer on yes or no. Neither derive confidence nor lack of confidence from elsewhere/ other people.
Find it within yourself and be affirmative, “YES. I am awesome and don’t need others to tell me anything else.” At least thats what I have been saying to myself.
Being said, you are quite driven! That’s good!

Ultimately nobody can say what goes on in the Admissions room, regarding who gets accepted and who doesn’t get accepted to such and such a place. That said, you are a strong applicant and will be competitive wherever you go. When we talk academics and leadership, you qualify, and thats virtually half the battle.
I am currently a West Point applicant and am going through the process. As a high school junior, you will want to apply to the academy and for nominations as early as possible (these things usually open in the spring). This will go a long way in showing your interest in being a career officer. Securing a letter of assurance will help you reach your goal (why you would want to apply as early as possible). Your scores and everything are good. You are competitive. Most from Maryland are applying for the Naval Academy, so it shouldn’t be as hard securing a nomination in your state. Regardless, good luck and PM me with any questions.
