What are my chances of getting into Wharton ED?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently a junior attending the International School of Geneva (Ecolint) in Switzerland (the La Chataigneraie Campus). I’m doing the IB program: taking Math, Economics, and History at Higher Level, and Chemistry, Spanish Ab Initio, and English Literature at Standard Level.

At the moment, I have a 6.8 GPA (out of 7)
From years 10 to 11 I have consistently won a wide range of awards at the end of the year for may academic performance.

I recently took the SATs and got a 2170 M+CR=700+700 = 1400
Will be taking them again in May and Math 2,German,and French Subject Tests in June

Re extra-curriculars,
-I’m president of the Student Council

  • Editor-in-chief of the Student newspaper that delivers to all three Ecolint campuses (Before I became editor-in-chief, I was Editor of the Visual Arts and Photography section of EtCetera, the newspaper)
    -Peer counsellor
    -Volunteer at the red cross
-Have done the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award
-Participated in year 11 and 12 in Student League of Nations
-Am participating in Global Issues Network
  • Participated in a debating competition in year 9 and 10, won 3rd and 2nd place in the categories I participated in
-Intern every Saturday at my parents’ commodity trading company
-have interned at Bunge’s (a commodity trading company in Geneva)

I would really appreciate some honest advice (brutally honest advice will be appreciated =} ) and feeback regarding my current chances of getting into Wharton ED and what I can do to improve my chances.

Thank you!

You seem like you are within the feasible range for admission at a school like Penn. Stellar but not an extremely competitive applicant based on your scores. I dont know what kind of awards you have and how important they are so they might give you an edge. If i were you I would try to improve my SAT a bit. The average at Penn for the class of 2018 was 2200 and the median was 2230. For the class of 2019 it is prob gonna be at least the same or higher. Are you an international student(i.e non US citizen?) the acceptance rate for international students is quite lower than the overall. For the class of 2018 the overall was about 10% and for international students it was about 6.7%. So it is a good idea to have your scores well above the average in order to have a good chance. Also ED might have a much higher acceptance rate than RD but the group applying is more self-selected and they also give a lot of preference to legacies in ED which they dont do in RD. Also specifically Wharton is known to place a lot of emphasis on leadership and extracurriculars so if you have that and not exceptional( but still pretty good of course) SAT’s your chances will be good. Lastly for extracurriculars I would advise quality over quantity. They don’t care if you have participated in 20 different ec’s they wanna see that you tske leadership positions in them and invest a lot of time and effort- which you seem to already have so you are good. Also make sure you nail the math2 subject test. I don’t know if you have heard of the academic index, it is a formula ivies use to rank the academic quality of applicants. Go here and put in your scores and u will get an idea of where you stand-of course take the result with a grain of salt. http://www.satscores.us/MyChances/AI_Calculator.asp

Good luck!!

Thank you! Yes, I’m an international student and I’m taking the SATs again in May. I’m hoping for above a 750 in all sections.
