What are my chances of getting more financial aid?

I committed to Fordham Lincoln Center with $35,500 total in grants and scholarships. I’ve already accepted my financial aid (I declined $5,500 worth of loans). No class rank, but I have a 3.7 (almost 3.8) GPA weighted (all honors or AP classes throughout high school) and a 2020 SAT (720 CR, 590 M, 710 W). I am about to start the financial aid appeal process - what are my chances of getting more financial aid?

All financial aid packages include loans. The appeal depends on circumstances, tax returns and family wealth including your home value. Good luck.

That actually sounds like an excellent offer. It is well above all the others that I have seen. Congratulations! I know that they like seeing competing offers from equal status ( or better) schools. So, if NYU, Georgetwon, GW, Barnard, or BU offered more, they would try to match it. If Manhattan, Hofstra, Mount St. Mary’s, Fairfield, offered more, they might not be so inclined to increase the award. They want copies of the offer letters and they want to meet in person. My friend was offered a free ride at GW and Fordham upped their offer 10k per year upon seeing that letter. Good luck and please post back and let us know how and what you did.

I am curious to know if Fordham increased your financial aid package, as we appealed my daughter’s offer (which was considerably less than what you were offered - basically only loans with a small amount of merit and no other need based aid whatsoever). We sent in photocopies of higher aid offers from several schools of equal status, and also sent a letter explaining extenuating financial circumstances that would not have been apparent on the FAFSA, but no additional aid and they were really slow to respond to our appeal. It was my daughter’s first choice but she had to commit elsewhere because with 3 other kids, and helping another family member out financially right now, there is no way we can do $67000 a year for the next four years.
