I am currently a freshman at Brown University, however I am looking into transferring to Vanderbilt University to be closer to home. What are my chances of going from Brown to being accepted as a transfer student at Vanderbilt? Thanks!
It’s always a challenge. It depends on your grades , reasons and their needs. More baseline info would be needed and even with those data points it’s a guess. So many factors that are tbd. However it is not the general prestige shopping issue that can hurt an applicant.
In the time of Covid 19 anything is possible and distance is a legitimate concern.
To give more info, in high school, I had a 4.93 weighted Gpa and a 33 act composite score. Additionally, outside of school, I was a two time Tennessee state shooting champion and a multiple time champion junior dragster driver, which I think both helped in the initial application process.
However, now at Brown, I have only taken 1 class as they have changed to trimesters due to COVID and I will not take these classes until spring/summer.
can i ask why you’re transferring? i’m really looking at brown and i’ve never seen anyone trying to transfer out of an ivy league school.
Due to unforeseen circumstances related to COVID, I’d really like to stay closer to home (I’m from Tennessee).
Other than academic prestige, there are few more opposite schools than Vandy and Brown. I’m sure it’ll be an interesting conversation in admissions. Not a bad thing, but interesting. Moving closer to home is a valid reason, which makes Brown-Vandy explainable. Covid is also a valid reason.
I have several friends who are miserable in their first year at an Ivy and are looking to transfer. They’ve handled Covid brutally for students. Basically, rejecting many gap year requests, having either no or extremely limited on-campus students, etc. I’m not questioning their methods or whether these decisions are medically sound. I’m simply saying that for young adults they’ve turned off many of their students, and I’ve heard of a ton that are looking to transfer.
Dude… I am a Vandy student wanting to transfer to Brown. Can we like…trade?
Okay back to your q, I do know couple Brown kids who transferred to Vandy. Top schools do take into consideration which school you’re from, in which your case would be a plus. (consider it about 0.2-0.3 GPA boost)
I do know Vandy is known for transfers, but it has become increasingly difficult in the last 4 yrs or so, and I know a kid that works part time in admissions office that they are trying to reduce the transfer numbers(from what I heard, don’t take my word for it.) Last year the stats were 21 or 22 percent acceptance rate, and it is safe to assume it will be around 18-21 this year.
Can I pm you from time to time to share additional info? I think we can both help each other out, such as on reasons for transferring. Let me know!
