College I'm thinking on applying to transfer: Duke, Northwestern, WashU, Cornell, Vanderbilt, USC, Michigan, Boston College, NYU, UIllinois, UMiami

Would really appreciate if people who have been accepted to these college that have similar crudentials to me give me their 2cents. Thnx!

Chances at Duke are hard to say. Usually their admissions rate is around 8-10%, but they overenrolled the Class of 2014 and so their rate this year was like ~1%. I think you have fair chances at all of these schools, you have some very interesting ECs and the military experience is a good eye-catcher. Your grades aren’t spectacularm, however. Especially considering that for sophomore transfers a good amount of weight is placed on your HS record. For Cornell it is crucial that you demonstrate why Cornell is the school for you.

How do you plan to pay for these schools?

Thanks Knight!
Yeah my grades aren’t too good- It’s one thing I really regret not working on more… I concentrated too much on my social life and left out time to study and crammed the day before exams.

But you mentioned that I had a fair chance on the other colleges listed; however, are there any on the list that are more than fair for me in terms of acceptance??

To answer your question about paying for college: As much as my family and i would like to get scholarships, we are willing to pay for the tuition even if there was none. My family and i truly belief going to a good school as a important priority. It is by no means easy to pay 50k a year but i feel that it is definitely worth it and i would make the best of it. Would definitely pick a scholarship at USC or Michigan over paying full at Cornell or Northwestern tho!

Actually, just to add more details… I’ve applied to UMiami in High School and got Accepted; however, I had no scholarship and my parents still thought Miami wasnt worth paying the 40k tuition + 13k Housing. I’m reapplying to see if I would get scholarship this time. Did anyone here get scholarship from UMiami?

Okay, thanks for the background.

Transfer scholarships are definitely hard to come by. Check the Transfer Forum for some details on schools that offer them, because not many do.

As far as schools go, I would think you have a great chance at Miami because you got in in HS and your stats are still good. I know Vandy and WashU are pretty transfer-friendly, as is Cornell. Duke will be hard but because you have a somewhat unique background, I would think anything is possible. I don’t know that much about the other schools, but I know USC gets a lot of transfer apps.

Thank knight!

Appreciate the helpful comments! I’ve been soo caught up lately with picking colleges and am a little more at ease now after your help. I initially thought those colleges are a long shot for me.

Any other opinions? I really want to get to USC, is this very reachable?
