What are my chances to get into UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCD, or CSU Long Beach?

Hi everyone! I am an incoming senior and have just starte the applications process. Here are my statistics and things to take into account.

  • GPA: 4.9 on a 5 point scale
  • ACT: 23 (I have two more chances to retake it)
  • SAT: 1110 (I have three more chances to retake it)
  • I did cheerleading and badminton during 9th grade but I unfortunately had to stop playing sports after getting 4 concussions in one season.
  • I am apart of the school spirit club
  • I tutor kids at my school
  • I worked as a tutor
  • I am a filipino female
  • I have been in orchestra from 4th grade to 12th
  • My mother is a physical therapist assistant and she supports 4 of my siblings and myself
  • I have come from a dysfunctional family and it really has shaped me into who I am today (my dad was accused of rape and was on the news, my stepmother would hit me, my mom was with a man who would cheat on her) I feel this is something worth mentioning in my college essay.
  • I have taken AP biology, AP human geography, AP english language and composition, AP world history, and AP US history.
  • I took AP biology as a junior but it’s a senior class at my school. So, I’m interning for my AP biology teacher for my senior year.
  • I have volunteered at a post acure rehabilitation center after I finished my internship there.

It would be so helpful to have input on what my chances would be! I want to go premed. Also, I have gotten tutoring for the SAT and ACT so I really think I can get better scores!

You need to calculate your UC/CSU GPA: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

All CSU’s and UC’s will use the capped weighted UC GPA. UCLA/UCB also consider the Fully weighted UC GPA.

CSULB will admit by Eligibility index and major:
(CSU/UC GPA x800) + (SAT Math + CR) or (CSU/UC GPA x200) + (ACT composite x10).

Your GPA looks great but your test scores need to be bumped up into the 1350+ SAT or 30+ ACT for the best chances at the UC’s on your list. CSULB unless you are local will be tough unless you get your test scores up a bit.

Intended major will also impact your chances but you have extenuating circumstances which should be mentioned in your essays. Just make sure you focus on how it affected you.

CSULB is within Reach, but I would add UCSC and UCR to your list. UCLA/UCSD/UCI and UCD will difficult admits unless you increase those test scores.

What is your local Cal State? I would use that as a safety.

Race/Ethnicity not used in admission decisions.

You’ll definitely get into CSU LB, F. You should also apply to cal poly slo/ pomona because they are great in evaluating students not with sat test score (say you have strong ap scores for your major).
Probably get into UCD, UCR,UCM and stuff
but UCI has been hella competitive now. You better start working on your sat.

AP scores are not considered in admission decisions for the UC’s or CSU’s. SLO/CPP puts a huge emphasis on test scores along with GPA so your statement is not true @applicationhelp2.

CPP admits by eligibility index and major just like all the CSU’s (except SLO uses MCA points) so GPA and test scores are the main criteria. AP scores are not even mentioned as admission criteria.

SLO bases their admission criteria on several factors but GPA/Test scores garner the most MCA points in their MCA calculation. SLO unlike the rest of the CSU’s does consider EC’s but they only account for 10% of the MCA points.

CSU’s however are generous with AP credit which can help reduce your time spent at these schools.

Here is the Freshman profile for SLO:

https://admissions.calpoly.edu/prospective/profile.html

The lowest average ACT of 28 and SAT 1315 is in the College of Agriculture. OP is way below the 25th percentile for both.
For SLO, major has a huge impact on your chances since they admit by major. The acceptance rate can range from 8% for Computer Science to 90% for Dairy Science. Intended major will make a huge difference.
