Hi! So I am currently a sophomore in a virtual high school, next year I’ll be a junior. My school does not offer any AP/IB/Honor courses. My teacher has told me to go to community college when I’m 16 but I’ve heard that community college may not be accepted into some schools out of state. I am also not turning 16 until the end of junior year. I have found some online AP courses that I can take(through UC Scout or edX). I was thinking about doing those courses to take the AP tests. Would they help my chances to get into a UC school? My dream school would be UC Davis. I am in-state
I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and have taken 3 years of Spanish already(Highest my school goes and only language they have). On my PSAT I scored a 1110 without studying. I have taken multiple electives. I also volunteer in 3 different places.
Do I have a good chance so far? Would my chances be improved by taking online AP courses? Or would it not be worth it?
Thanks.
Make sure the AP on-line courses are UC approved, use this link: https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist#/list/search/institution
Since your school does not offer AP/IB courses, you will not be penalized for not taking them. It will show initiative for taking the courses, just make sure you do well.
For the UC’s, if you plan to take CCC courses you can use: assist.org to make sure they are transferable. For OOS, you would need to check with each school.
You are on the right track with GPA. Continue with some test prep and do EC’s that interest you. At the end of Junior year, calculate your UC GPA and repost with your stats for a proper chancing. Intended major will impact your chances also, so consider what area of study you want to pursue. Good luck.
