i'm currently enrolled in a community college, ready to transfer. Im aiming for UCD animal science major. My gpa went down to a 2.91 because i failed a math class last semester. What are my chances of getting in UCD as an animal science major with that low GPA. I do know that the min. gpa for this major is 2.80 however i feel like i have no chance with that gpa. Plus i haven't gotten hands on experiment with anything related to animals.

However i have finished most of the pre req. with ochem in progress. What are my chances of getting in and is it a better idea to apply with a different major?

Did you TAG to UCD? The animal science major is very competitive; check the website and you’ll see that they require higher gpa’s. The courses are difficult. The adcom may question if you have the ability to compete with other students at your level. You may want to talk to a counselor at your CC and find out how you can make yourself look like a more viable UCD candidate.

No unfortunately i didn’t apply for TAG. My GPA was affected by failing a math class last semester. However i’m currently retaking the class & i’m hoping they’ll replace the grade. Do i have a better chance if i change my major?

Yep, I think you could go in as an undeclared major in biological sciences.

Oh i’ve always thought that applying with an undeclared major is bad for a transfer student. But i do see how it’s a better chance compared to animal science.
