What are my chances with WashU?

Hi! So I'm considering Washington University in Saint Louis in my college search. However, I know that the school is particularly selective--I read online that their acceptance rate is a little less than 20%.

As far as grades go, I'm heading into my senior year and managed a 3.6 cumulative GPA for my first semester of junior year and a 3.7 for the second. When I first took the ACT, I scored a 27 but, after several study sessions, I retook the ACT and scored a 31. My extracurricular activities include being part of the fall play/spring musical at my school and participating in the art club, movie club and green team as well as being accepted into the Writing Institute for high school students at WashU. I can produce a stellar admissions essay and great recommendations from my teachers. I also took two college-level (ACC) classes this past year and will be taking three during my senior year.

If I were accepted, I would major in English and go on to graduate school after graduation.

So, what do you all think? Do I have a good chance of being accepted? Is there anything I could do to better my chances? I'd really appreciate any sort of constructive input. Please let me know!

This is pretty good, but there are definitely some holes in the way of leadership positions, athletics, and community service. I’m not familiar with Washington University but if their acceptance rate is that low it could be beneficial for you to branch out a little during senior year. Maybe take on a sport? But overall a solid app :)

Would you mind chancing me as well?

Thanks! Good luck!

I see no SAT score here–if you haven’t taken it you should. Your GPA isn’t stellar, but if your school is especially rigorous, that will be taken into account. Your EC’s, especially your involvement with the Writing Institute and your essays will be your strongest parts. Raise the GPA and take the SAT. If you do, I’d say you have a decent shot.

Chance me back, please?
