I am a female New Jersey resident hoping to be accepted into TCNJ (The College of New Jersey) I'm applying Early Decision and listed my desired major as Secondary Education with a focus on History. My grades are good, however my GPA is not (3.455) I take a rigorous course-load and I also take a full eight-period day (unlike most of my classmates) with all academic courses. This year I am taking 3 AP classes and 2 classes from which I receive college credit. My SATs however are not good I took them last June and received a 1600. I'm taking them once again in October and I am striving for an 1800. Although my GPA and SATs are not strong I have roughly 2,300 hours of community service as I am involved with my church through the Antioch program - I have served as a Team Leader twice and I am now the Coordinator of the next weekend, which would be equivalent to the 'President' of the program. I have also been involved with 3 sports all four years of high school and I am currently Field Hockey captain for the second time in two years. I also tutor in history, teach religious education, and I am the Secretary of the Italian Club. I realize my GPA and SAT isn't strong, but do I stand a chance? Also, is there a specific topic I could emphasize on my common-app essay to increase my chances or help me stand out? This is my ideal school, and it is great for the career I hope to have in the future - any advice would help me greatly!!
