What Are My Chances?

Hello Everyone!

Rising Senior here, and I am starting applications.

I plan on applying to a pretty wide range of schools, and I was wondering if you all could chance me for Johns Hopkins University, Washington and Lee, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, University of Pennsylvania, Wake Forest University, and Davidson College.

GPA: 3.98 (One B+ freshman year)

ACT: 31, with a 10 on writing. This was my second attempt. I plan on taking the ACT 1-2 more times. I have not done any tutoring for it, and I am about to start a one on one ACT prep class focusing on math and science. (my subscores are 35 reading, 32 English, 29 Math, and 27 science). I think that with this tutoring, I will be able to raise my score to at least a 32/33 if not a 34.

SAT 2: 600 Chemistry, 700 US History
Extracurriculars: Fairly standard stuff. High points are Volunteering/Shadowing at a local hospital (approximately 50 Hours), Started a charitable website, Baseball team captain, Kids to Kids facilitator (A mentoring program within my school), School Honor Council member for 11th and 12th grade, and Senior Class Vice President.

AP Scores: 5 AP US History, 5 AP English Language and Composition, 4 AP Chemistry

Please give me some feedback! Even if it is probably not what I want to hear, I need to hear it now! If there is anything else I left out, or that anyone wants to know please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

Hi LazyBonez! Thanks for the chance man!

A few things are missing here. 1. What state do you live in? 2. Do you have any hooks such as legacy or URM? 3. What major do you intend to apply as?

I ask these things because Chapel Hill is a very tough school to get admission to out of state and any hooks can greatly change your chances for the schools you listed. What major you decide to apply as is also a huge factor in admissions as well.

Anyways, from where you stand right now, UPenn, JHU, UNC, and W&L are all reaches. You definitely have the right mindset to get that ACT score up and I think with your attitude you will definitely get it to where you want. If you can do, that will be HUGE for you application. Maybe even retake some of those subject tests if you have time and get those scores even higher.

EC-wise you look good. I would advise you adding a few more leadership or peculiar ECs (easier said than done, I know) to your resume. If you can do that, you have a good shot!

Let me know your answers to my questions and I can give you better analysis of your situation.

Good luck!

You might want to take another SAT subject test. Also, leadership is good to see. You seem to have solid extracurriculars. The colleges you are applying to are tough to get into. If you can get your scores up and have solid essays, you have a pretty good chance of getting in. Good luck!

Hey, thank you so much for the feedback!

1) I live in KY
2)No hooks, as far as legacies or anything like that
3) I’m not really sure. My interests are super varied. I love economics, but at the same time I am thoroughly interested in physics and mathematics.

@oreogirl12‌ Thanks for the feedback! I hope I can get my scores up some!
