See, it’s not about being rich or anything. Just that I want astronomy and it’s not available in India. I will apply for financial aid.
Thankfully, I didn’t miss the deadline for UWash. :)

I’m thinking of sending around 5 or 6. UWash is one. Then BU, Purdue and MIT (even if chances are minuscule). I’m not applying to Harvard.

Any other options? I’m considering UT too.

You said earlier that cost isn’t a problem. How much finaid do you need? Money is really tight for internationals.

Not much financial aid. But i just don’t want to put the complete cost on my parents. I’d rather get as much help as possible.

Don’t count on finaid.

U Rochester, U Maryland-CP, U Richmond, Bucknell, Boston U, U Wash, Purdue.

By the way, it’s really hard to determine “chances” for an international. There are obviously fewer applying/accepted to a certain school, and it’s safe to say that their stats and ECs and overall profile don’t produce as smooth of a curve as what you get with domestic applicants with a higher sample size. I think you should assume that all of these schools that you’re considering have the pick of some outstanding int’l students, with relatively few slots available.

If your home safeties are really unappealing to you, then err on the conservative side with your US strategy. Some posters would say that the list that I mentioned above is too safe for you, but you’d find others who’d say that even that list is risky. You’ll figure it out!

Im also an international student from india. I think you should apply to Purdue ! Its a good school and you have a good chance at it …
Take a look at virginia tech and penn state …

Okay, so MIT (don’t try to talk me out of this one), BU, UWash, Purdue and Penn State.

Should I or should I not apply to UMich?

Is there a reason that you’re drawn more to public schools? Size? Public schools are mandated to accept a certain portion of in-state applicants, so I’ve always had the sense that international applicants should have a fair number of private institutions on their list, simply because privates have more freedom with who they admit. Also, many internationals need finaid, and wealthier private schools are much more reliable in that regard.

No. No preference for public schools. And as i said, financial aid isn’t really a big factor.
Do you have any suggestions?

I mean private school suggestions.

There were four privates in post #23.
