I’m a high school junior at the moment and I have a 3.1 GPA (unweighted) and I just took the SAT for the first time and got a 1300. I plan to retake it for a higher score. I’ve only taken 1 AP which is this year (AP Lang) and I have taken honors wherever possible, so I have plenty of Honors credits. I am going to be taking 5 credits worth of AP next year, 6 classes total:
AP Calculus AB
AP Chemistry
AP Government (1/2)
AP Macroeconomics (1/2)
AP Literature and Composition
AP French
I still have some time to raise my GPA before I start applying for colleges, but I don’t think I can get any higher than a 3.3. Last I checked my weighted was 3.3, but I know it’s higher now, I just can’t check until I ask my guidance counselor. I have not taken the ACT and I’m not sure I plan to. I have no EC because my parents never let me (they wanted me to focus on religion, which kind of applies to why I have a low GPA) and I will be doing at least 100 community service hours over the summer.
My current classes are:
Physics Honors
United States History Honors
Digital Design 1
Pre-calculus (Honors)
AP Language and Composition
Italian 1
Piano 1
I currently have 6 As and 1 C in AP Lang but it’s very close to a B; we’re writing plenty of essays the next few weeks and I love essays and score high on them so I know I can raise my grade easily.
Should I even try? I’m very anxious because of my low GPA and Ohio State is one of my dream colleges. Can a high SAT score compensate? What score should I aim for?
