What are my chances?

Hi. I'm a Junior in a very NON-competitive school. My school is 3rd in our district with 4 schools. To sum this all up my school is very low in academics and its rare to see a student get into an ivy league school.

I would like to know what my chances are for these schools:

Thanks in advance for telling me what my chances are!

i think you're a sure match for all of the UC's and SF State. You have a great shot at all the rest, though it will be slightly more competitive. There's not much more you can do about it now.

Since UC is all about numbers, its hard to decide w/o an SAT score. If your sat is 2000, UCLA/UCB are reaches, UCSD is match, and other are safe matches. Sorry but dont even think about those first 8 on your list. Its tough..

The problem with getting into the first eight is that you have nothing that talks of academic competitions or musical/arts competitions, and your leadership skills don't show through with this list (where are the things like student government, president of a club, leading a beach cleanup effort, working on political campaigns, etc.)

P.S. Don't list Who's Who on your application--everyone knows you pay to be listed, so adcoms consider this a scam.

I didn't know that Whos who was something you had to pay to get in because a teacher recommended me for it. I just paid to get an album, my name would still have been in it even if I hadn't paid the money.

As for the leadership part does it have to be something I was a LEADER in? I was part of park cleanups, river cleanups, and painting schools but I wasn't the leader of it...I guess what I really want to know is what counts as leadership?

Also another question! You said the first eight is a problem does that mean the others like UCLA aren't problems?

lalacherry:

UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match
UCI/UCSB: Safe Match
